I am an avid amateur genealogist, researching many different lines for both family and friends. I include all collateral lines, so my area of interest is extensive.

I have added many memorials in the hope of helping a fellow researcher. Permission is granted for personal use of any of the photos I have added, please just cite the F.A.G. memorial number and cite me as the photographer. This includes ancestry.com - it's so disappointing to look at a public family tree and find one of my photographs without mention of the photographer.

I decline to give permission to use my photos for resale, for profit, or to upload to a different web site. Do not copy them to other grave related sites such as BillionGraves.com.

PLEASE remember the volunteer nature of FAG and be polite when writing. People have been less than understanding recently, wondering why the information they sent hadn't yet been added.

Dates of birth & death as well as linking to parents can been added through the automated system. If I've missed your email about additions to a memorial, just ask a second time. We're all human, no need for attitude.

TIPS FOR PHOTOGRAPHING GRAVESTONES by Maureen Taylor

[for full article, go to Genealogy.com] http://www.genealogy.com/64_gravestones_print.html

"Technique:

Since you are creating a record of the cemetery in addition to photographing a single stone you should take several images of the same marker. For example:

1. One showing the whole cemetery.

2. Shoot an image that includes the closest stones and provides context.

3. Photograph the whole gravestone so that inscription and carving are visible.

4. Make sure to take at least one picture where the inscription fills the camera frame.

Unless you are extremely lucky, most of the stones you want to photograph will not be straight due to ground settling. In the case of leaning stones, tilting the camera should eliminate the slant."

It avails not, neither time or place—distance avails not;
I am with you, you men and women of a generation, or ever so
many generations hence;
I project myself—also I return—I am with you, and know how it is.

Just as you feel when you look on the river and sky, so I felt;
Just as any of you is one of a living crowd, I was one of a crowd;
Just as you are refresh'd by the gladness of the river and the bright flow,
I was refresh'd... ~ "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" by Walt Whitman

Hi,

Memorial #516238 has him at Riverside Nat'l Cemetery. I checked their listing and they do show a burial site for him. However, you have him at Green Hills Memorial Park and you've got a tombstone photo. I was wondering if you can confirm that the stone photo is at Green Hills. Do we have a situation here where perhaps he has a stone in two different cemeteries? Thanks. By the way, I sent an edit to link him to his parents who are buried in his hometown with most of the rest of the family.

Hello. My name is Bev. I am a descendant of the Harviston line. I noticed you created a find a grave for Lillian Johnson whom I believe to be Lillian Pressia Harviston who married Bohannan. Looks like she may have remarried a man named Johnson and deceased in California. Are you related to Lillian? Are you able to tell me about her? Thank you Bev

Hi,
While taking a photo of Edmund's stone, I also took one of Sallie's stone next to his. If you will create a memorial for her, I will be glad to add the photo, just let me know.

RE: Hi Nancy!
Oh my, that does sound serious. I'm glad you're feeling better but what a scare that must have been. I know what you mean; I rarely do photo requests there anymore. Just not lucky enough to claim before someone else does. But when I go, I take a huge number of extra photos and upload them to the existing memorials. Makes the trip down there seem more worthwhile.

Take care,

B.J.

Correcting a name
Hello. Green Hills Memorial Park had my son's name spelled incorrectly in their records. Consequently, when I search here, it is as well. I have already contacted them and they have finally fixed the error within their system. How can I get his name to be listed correctly here on this site?

Thank you.

Hi Nancy!
I noticed your photo requests at Green Hills. Did you move away from the area? I remember you used to take photos here.

-B.J.

PS - I hope you are in the best of health now.
