I enjoy visiting cemeteries, taking photos of the gravestones and statuary. I was so excited when I discovered the FIND A GRAVE website because I finally have a place to use the information I have been gathering. |
My special interests are my ancestors families: McCorkle, Coleman, Yeomans/Youmans, Gardner,Webb, Moore, Brashear, Pitts, Forney, Hoke, Bergner, Balfour, Abernethy, Givhan, Johnson, Mobberley, Potts, Pegram, Bumpass, Matthews, Coats, Jenkins, Dorsey, Pope, Chapman, Dixon, Porter, Sandifer, Loughlin, Wallette,etc.
My profile photo is of the real "Little Marie". She was Marie Chapman Senyard, daughter of Mary Ethel Brashear and Dr. Oscar Chapman, sister of Elmo Mobley Chapman, and wife of Faye Senyard. She was my grandmother's first cousin, and, though I never knew her personally, I know that she, like many other members of the family, was very interested in preserving her family's history and heritage, as I am. I use her picture to honor her. This picture is courtesy of Moses M. Coleman, Jr., my father.
Much of the personal family info that I have been able to add to my family memorials comes from the book "Granny Bess" which contains historical info, letters, newspaper articles, and photos of the McCorkle, Brashear, Moore, Webb, Dorsey, Johnson and related families.

Yes, that's right. I forgot that they were first-cousins. Quite common back then.
No, I don't have a picture of Wadie Maurine. Their granddaughter, Elaine Beasley West, had given me some information, as well as pictures. You might contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hope your dad is well. I've so enjoyed the amazing book he sent me, "Granny Bess." Your dad is a remarkable man.

Are you related to Wadie Maurine. I am a cousin through her mother.

Thank you for the links to her family members.

Don't need credit - this is all for the families.

The official name of the Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge is Church of the Redeemer. I'll transfer those memorials to you and you can decide which one to keep
There are two major cemeteries within the town of Oak Ridge, Church of the Redeemer and Oak Ridge Baptist. Someone else started a Find A Grave cemetery simply known as Oak Ridge Cemetery. That caused a bit of confusion, also.
Take care and happy hunting.

First, let me express my sympathy to you on the loss of your son. I, too, have lost my son, though at a greater age.
Thank you for noticing the connection between Nannie Nichols and her parents, J. Alexander Johnson and Margaret Pugh Johnson. I have made the links on this site and am happy to do so. At one time, I knew that Nan's parents were buried in the Govans cemetery, but I forgot. I am very curious to know how you knew to look for Nan!
|Digger||RE: McCorkle graves in Crowley|
I'm so sorry -- I apologize. I seem not to have the photo. I had a long list of photos to take of my own family in the two main Crowley cemeteries, and since I was going to be there I had added the five requests you had made on FindAGrave. When I took the photos of the McCorkles I even wrote down the name and dates from the stone for "Buddie" and put a check in the "photo taken" column on my list. But I apparently did not actually take the photo. (Oy, I'm losing it.) If you post a photo request for him and no one else gets to it before I'm down there again in a few months, I'll certainly take it then.

|Digger||McCorkle graves in Crowley|
I was in Crowley last week (where three generations of my family are buried) and took the photos of your McCorkle relatives as well. I just wanted you to know that there was an additional McCorkle in the same group with John, Virginia, etc -- William Butler McCorkle 1849-1926. I took photos of that grave as well, so if you want them and create a memorial for him, let me know and I'll upload them.
Regards to a fellow family hunter -
Robert Hill ("Digger")
