This is my Graveyard assistant. He keeps all the free-roaming spirits entertained while I take the pictures. |
There are so many old cemeteries in this part of NC so we are trying to post as many interments as possible to help all you researchers out. Also, most of the stones they used for markers in the 1800's are not standing up to the elements very well so it's a race against time to get as many pictures as possible. If you are looking for more NC relatives, I am working with the team of volunteers at cemeterycensus.com. They have surveyed and taken pictures of a ton of cemeteries in central NC.
School's out so I have my graveyard buddy back with me! We are a few days away from our annual pilgrimage to far western Virginia. I've printed off about 500 photo requests in that area and I'm looking forward to taking lots of pictures. Apparently there's a shortage of volunteers in them thar mountains!
My current local project is the Oakwood cemetery right across town. I have finally finished section one and I've scratched the surface of section 2. If I had to guess I'd say there are about 8 - 9000 people buried here so it may take a while.

You have a great memory! Yes the Alamance churchyard cemetery is where many of the Paisley Revolution era ancestors are buried!
Thanks for your response concerning Pine Hill Cemetery. I will check on posting requests for photos, if I can locate all of the surnames I was following up on, there! A few days of entering names, and I lose track. Thank goodness for Ancestry's online tree building function! I will begin with Lillie Tate above.
