I am retired from Federal Civil Service, where I worked for the Department of Defense for over twenty-seven years. Genealogy has been my number one hobby for thirty-four years and our daughters never missed an opportunity to comment that their mother was the only person they knew who took a vacation and came home with nothing but pictures of tombstones.
Lineage societies keep me busy as I am a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, United States Daughters of 1812 and Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. In Colonial Dames of the 17th Century I prove my descent from the royal lines of Europe through my ancestor John Throckmorton. I have a total of forty coats of arms approved, including eight barons who forced King John to sign the Magna Charta. In 2009 my membership into the National Society Magna Charta Dames and The Plantagenet Society was approved. In 2010 I have added The National Huguenot Society,First Families of New Hampshire and Descendants of Colonial Clergymen, to my approved lineage societies. Approved in August 2011 was my application as a Descendant of the Most Noble Order of Knights of the Garter. In August 2013 my membership was approved for Order of Washington, The Sovereign Colonial Society Americans of Royal Descent and Colonial Order of the Crown. My membership in the new lineage society: National Society of Descendants of Lady Godiva was approved in January 2015.
My genealogical research includes all collateral lines. Some of my direct lines include BARKER,BEVER,BLAIR, CHANDLER,COMPTON,DUFFORD, DOUGLASS,DUNN, DRAKE, HATT,HOLLINGSWORTH, ISAACKS, KINDER, LIFE, MARKER, MCELVAIN, MCKINSEY, MCMAHAN, NINE, SARBER,SCOTT, STEVENS, SIMMONS, SMITH, STOUT, and my husband's lineage including SHAWN, SHOUN, SHOWN, LOCKABY, HEAD, MOORE, BAKER, SLEMP, GREATHOUSE, AND JOHNSON.
This site is wonderful for bringing people together and giving us an opportunity to share our tombstone pictures and pictures of the cemeteries. IF YOU USE MY PICTURES AND/OR MY GENEALOGICAL INFORMATION PLEASE GIVE ME CREDIT FOR MY WORK; OTHERWISE YOU DO NOT HAVE MY PERMISSION TO POST IT TO ANY OTHER SITE.
RE: Billy Earl Scott Memorial I too am the family genealogist. Can't even count how many cousins I have. My paternal grandfather AND paternal grandmother were both married three times so there are a lot of cousins just on my father's side.
Family I recently also asked for a transfer from person below me. My brother died August 14 2015 and the very next day this person added a page with completely inaccurate information. I thought it was find a "grave" not find an "obituary". After a week at the hospital with no sleep this was very disturbing to my family. He was not even in the ground yet and we were exhausted. This has prompted us to not even print the most recent death in the paper. So sad....
RE: Billy Earl Scott My memorial is the original since it was created on Feb. 26, yours is a duplicate since it was created on Feb 27. However, after you have deleted your duplicate, I will transfer the original over to you for management. Please do not do me wrong on this, as I have been burned on transferring a family memorial recently.
Amanda Bever Coup Darlene, First let me thank you for all your work effort. My great grandmother is Amanda Bever Coup, daughter of your George Bever. We are blood cousins and isn't it wonderful that we can find each other. I would love to see your family tree for Bever. I, also, thank you for saying we should give credit to your hard work by noting that on the pictures. I have never done that, but will do so now.....I sincerely respect everyone's work, just never thought of giving credit. Sometimes our old brain does not see the whole picture, we just are glad to find the info. Have you ever thought of the new DNA testing. I am sending mine in this week and would like to see how this helps us locate living cousins who are hunting for our ancestors. Thank you again for your work Karen Robinson Layus
Use of photos Hello Darlene, First, thank you for posting photos and such thorough information on your profiles. I'm working on Reuben McMahan, America Ann (McElvain) McMahan and their children. I would like to eventually post photos for them when I create WikiTree profiles for them, but am first adding all of their information to my own ancestry account. May I use the photos and information that you provide along with my own research? Again, I appreciate your efforts.
William John Sarber Hi Darlene, I'm doing genealogical research about my ancestors in IN and I was thrilled to find the photo of William and Samantha Sarber that you posted. Samantha was the sister of my great-great grandfather, a Shields. I'm trying to find anyone who might have information about the Shields family in Indiana, particularly Samantha's father Robert R. Shields. Are you still in contact with any of her descendants who might be willing to share genealogical information? I would be very grateful for you help. Best wishes - SL
RE: Henry Douglas Darlene I wish I could tell you where it was, but I photographed the entire Cemetery and took over 1000 pictures. I happened to read what you had written on his memorial and sent the message that he really was there. Glad I made your day.
