I was glad to see the notes you had for Sluman Bartlett, husband of Polly St. John. There was some information I didn't have. I have a small correction. His daughter Esther is Esther Mary and not Esther May. I have copies of the names she wrote in her family Bible. She married Darius Seely and they moved to Howard Co. Iowa. She is buried in Saratoga, Howard Co.

Hi Stacy...Most of the useful DNA testing to attempt to identify individuals living today who closely match our own DNA is done at Family Tree DNA in Houston. https://www.familytreedna.com/
There are several hundred people bearing the Bartlett surname who have tested and were fortunate to have matched and identified others who share their paternal line. Sometimes you find out that you might not actually be, for example, a Bartlett. Adoptions, unwed pregnancies, etc may be the reason. In our case, we have two individuals with whom we match closely who carry the surname Parr and one Coe. And the Coe has a solid paper trail to the son of female slave in Texas. DNA results are kind of like Forrest Gump's box of candy! You never know what you're going to get.
If you never seen it, the following website is one of the most comprehensive for Bartlett family history.
The net website is from the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) Bartlett project groups.
The next is are DNA test results for the Bartlett project. Your family may be in the 3rd group down, labeled IC CT to NY to IL with the gray background.
While Sluman and his line is well reported at familysearch.com, I find no mention of him in any of the websites mentioned above.
The cost of DNA testing has come down markedly in recent years. If you have a male Bartlett who you believe to be a direct male descendant of Sluman it might be interesting to see the results. If you decided to test at FTDNA you might wish to wait till the December when they have less expensive specials. It would be best to test at least 37 markers. I wouldn't bother with the Family Finder test as most of us who have done it have not found it to be of much value.
I will be in the Smyrna/Sherburne/Norwich area in early Sept. On my drive from Norwich to Elmira I think I'll take a swing through Bartlett Hollow!
If you decide to do some DNA testing I'd be interested to hear what you discover.

Hi Stacy... I descend from a number of Bartletts who were in the Sherburne/Smyrna NY area from about 1800, having originally having been in Hadley MA.
A number of trees show the first Bartlett in the area as Sluman B, who is reported to have descended from Robert Bartlett of Plymouth MA.
Do you know if any of Sluman's direct male descendants have done any Y-DNA testing to confirm their link to Robert? I ask because for years we believed we descended from the same branch As Josiah B, a signer of the Declaration. DNA testing has conclusively proven that false in our case.

I have traced a branch of my family down to a branch of yours if you are interested. It goes Bartlett, Buffum, Fassett, Lillie, Wickwire, Wickwire, Derick, Derick back to Coonradt Derick b 1720 in Germany.
Let me know if you are interested,
