Bio Photo 2012-- from Upper Tract, West Virginia
Two years ago I had no idea where most of my ancestors were buried. I googled my g-g-grandfathers Isaac Alt and Alfred Kimble and found them on this site. I thought I might be able to link my family to them. That's how I got started. I had my sister go with me to show me where the Shreve and Kimble graveyards were in Smoke Hole. I must have caught some kind of bug in those graveyards that I can't get over. I'm adding the graveyards in the Upper Tract area. Most of them are not my relatives so if any one would like a transfer or link made just let me know. Feel free to copy any photos on my memorials for personal use. If added to another site, it would be nice to state where it was found. Let me know if you find any mistakes for I know they will be some.
I would to thank Jennie Hott for asking me to help record the updates for the cemeteries in the Upper Tract,Kline, Smoke Hole area for the new Pendleton County grave register that the historical Society has done. Also thanks to Denton Alt and Jack Hedrick for taking me and finding the cemeteries.

The following poem was written in 1906 by Walter Butler Palmer.

Dear Grandfather,
Your tombstone now, stands among the rest; Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out on polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care, It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist, You died before I was born.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse, Entirely not our own.
Dear Grandfather, the place you filled One hundred years ago.
Spreads out among the ones you left, Who would have loved you so.
I wonder how you lived and loved, I wander if you knew,
That someday I would find this spot, And come and visit you.

Calhoun and many other sites
Richard, thanks so much for your work for find a grave. I submitted info to you for Phoebe regarding her parents sites, while the person who listed her parents sites gave minimal information, it at least makes the connection. I so miss Jeannie Hott-we did some great research together and she helped connect my Hartmans. As I continue to research with ancestry and the Pendleton records, I will forward an information I find to complete find a grave data that you manage. chriseyec

William Harvey Hinkle
On William Harvey Hinkle's obituary it mentions he had a half brother Charlie Smith of mozer i believe the charlie mentioned in that obituary is the one who married a Mowery as the right charlie smith son of Isaac Smith and Catherine hinkle smith. i posted the death certificate of Catherine Hinkle Smith on her memorial the daughter of Nathan Hinkle and Barbara Hedrick Hinkle.

Barbara Carver
Landes Cemetery, Smoke Hole
My name is Barbara Carver. I added my great grandmother Clora (Jenkins) Paxton's info to the Landes cemetery. Clora was the mother of Guy VanMeter who drowned in the creek near the Landes Cemetery. I noticed her name is listed as Clara. However, it was Clora. She was the common law wife of John Adam VanMeter for 30+ years. She was married to John Paxton previously; and had two children, Mamie Paxton, and Page Paxton who was my grandfather.I was taken to this cemetery as a small child and told that my great grandmother Clora was buried there. Have visited it many times since then.
