Bio Photo 2012-- from Upper Tract, West Virginia
Two years ago I had no idea where most of my ancestors were buried. I googled my g-g-grandfathers Isaac Alt and Alfred Kimble and found them on this site. I thought I might be able to link my family to them. That's how I got started. I had my sister go with me to show me where the Shreve and Kimble graveyards were in Smoke Hole. I must have caught some kind of bug in those graveyards that I can't get over. I'm adding the graveyards in the Upper Tract area. Most of them are not my relatives so if any one would like a transfer or link made just let me know. Feel free to copy any photos on my memorials for personal use. If added to another site, it would be nice to state where it was found. Let me know if you find any mistakes for I know they will be some.
I would to thank Jennie Hott for asking me to help record the updates for the cemeteries in the Upper Tract,Kline, Smoke Hole area for the new Pendleton County grave register that the historical Society has done. Also thanks to Denton Alt and Jack Hedrick for taking me and finding the cemeteries.

The following poem was written in 1906 by Walter Butler Palmer.

Dear Grandfather,
Your tombstone now, stands among the rest; Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out on polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care, It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist, You died before I was born.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse, Entirely not our own.
Dear Grandfather, the place you filled One hundred years ago.
Spreads out among the ones you left, Who would have loved you so.
I wonder how you lived and loved, I wander if you knew,
That someday I would find this spot, And come and visit you.

Lough Cemetery
James W Lough (1845-1914) and Margaret (Simmons) Lough (1850-1923) were supposedly buried near Franklin, in Lough Cemetery #2. Didn't know if that was one of the Lough Cemeteries on Find A Grave.

Lough Cemetery
Hi Richard,
I noticed you photographed Ruddle/Lough Cemetery. I have tracked a couple of my ancestors who are supposed to be buried in Lough Cemetery #2. Do you know if Lough #2 is another name for the Ruddle Cemetery? Thanks so much!

Links accepted and have a new offer for you.
I'll trade the memorials up there for that shirt. Naw, just kidding, but seriously if you would like for me to transfer any just say the word and I will be happy to do so.
I can not believe it has been that long since we were up there. Oct. 2008.
Have a Gread day, Bud.

RE: George Ambrose Kimble Second great grandfather.
Hello Richard,
Thank you for the reply.

I should have left you a better detailed message. However, once my original quite lengthy message I had typed to you became deleted, I opted instead to simply copy paste my 23andme profile information in as my message. This being because I was limited in my time.

My great grandmother:

Alice Susan (Susie) Kimble's (married name Keplinger) parents are George Ambrose Kimble b. 1858. d. 1944 and her adoptive mother ( as listed on her marriage license to Homer Martin Keplinger ) is Rebecca J. Helmick b. 1873

Susan's father, (my second great grandfather) George Ambrose Kimble was married three times:

First marriage - 1892 Oct. 22nd to Mary Alt age 24 /George Ambrose Kimble age 29

Second Marriage - 1898 Oct 11th to Rose Shreve age 16. /George Ambrose Kimble - age 39 -
Roses parents are D.Y. And Mary. ( Daniel Young Shreve b. 1836 and Mary Elizabeth Kimble b. 1835.)

Third Marriage -1904 May 7th - to Rebecca J. Helmick -age 28 /G.A.k. Age 48

Susan (my great grandmother, daughter of George Ambrose Kimble) was born in February of 1899. The family knowledge handed down from Susan's children, that being my grandmother (whom was our families eldest living genealogist) and my grandmother's siblings, is that Susan was 'adopted' by her stepmother. Susan and her stepmother Rebecca J Helmick, did not get along (this is according to my grandmother, Susan's daughter, as well as being known by Susan's other children, my great Aunt and Uncles. The date of Susan's birth would place Rosa Shreve as her mother.

This is interesting because Rosa Shreve and George Ambrose Kimble are actually first cousins. George's parents being; James Kimble b. 1829 and Mary Elizabeth Malcom b. 1837/1838. Rosa's parents being Daniel Young Shreve b. 1836 and Mary Elizabeth Kimble b. 1835. -

Mary Elizabeth Kimble and James Kimble being brother and sister. Their parents being Samuel Adam Kimble b. 1790/91 and Elizabeth Susan Cox b. 1804

I also have more information on Rebecca J Helmick which is quite a mystery. She appears to be listed in census records with identical given dates, but with different parents. These parents being both the parents which you have listed as well as the parents I have listed. The kicker being Her 'daughter' Cora Alt is also listed in the census records with the parents whom I have listed, as well as the parents whom you have listed.

Rebecca J Helmick, George Ambrose Kimble's third wife's parents are:
Benjamin Franklin Helmick b. 1846 and Lucinda Harman b. 1840
1880 census records list Rebecca J Helmick as six years old with the above named parents of Benjamin Franklin Helmick and Lucinda Harman.
1900 census records list Rebecca J Helmick as 26 years old with above named parents. Cora Alt is also listed as the granddaughter of Rebecca J Helmick's parents (Benjamin Franklin and Lucinda Harman's)

I would like to continue writing, however, I must go for the time being.

Sincerely, Brigitte de La Motte Von Stetina

RE: Elizabeth Ann Kimble & Henry Judy
Please advise best way to forward information. I have 3 typewritten pages of descendants (scanned to a pdf file) and/or various documents that validate the line from me up to Henson Judy, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Betsy) Kimble.
And please pardon my delay...time has been tight.
Kind regards, cjb

George Ambrose Kimble Second great grandfather.
Hi Richard,
Originally I was in the midst of typing you a very detailed message. However, when I opened a new tab on my iPad in order to verify an ancestors death year, my message here vanished. So unfortunate because at the moment I cannot re type it out in it's entirety. I'll skip to the basics, though I'd prefer to give you more background.

Today I came across a photo which you have posted of my second great grandfather George Ambrose Kimble.

I'm so elated to see this photo, and I cannot help but hope that you have more.

I've had a strong desire to know who it is that I descend from ever since I can remember.

From the time I was a little girl I loved going through my grandmothers many boxes of old photos of my ancestors, as well as attending the annual family Keplinger reunions in WV.

It was around the year 2009 when my maternal grandmother helped me to create my Keplinger and DuHamell (maternal) side of my family tree, verifying my findings from her memory, as well as her huge genealogy book. Sadly it was cut short.

One persons whose line we never covered, was that of her mother Alice Susan (Susie) Kimble (married Keplinger.) Susie's father was George Ambrose Kimble and her mother (had to be) Rosa Shreve. Though she was raised by George's third wife Rebecca Helmick. I've started a line for Susan, however it's a test line. I need to go through meticulously and verify names and dates now. Then of course continue the build.
I'm hoping that you might have some information which I do not.
I thank you greatly for your time.

The connection...pretty amazing. There are several of us here in IL and I am the one looking into the Judy lineage. I'd be happy to fill in some blanks, or try, if desired.
Thanks for your prompt reply.
