I am Velma (Matthes) Greer. I have lived in Montgomery, TX, for about 15 years, but grew up in Bay City, TX. I was an elementary teacher most of my life, and my husband, Jerry Greer, was a teacher/coach. We lived in several towns in Texas throughout our careers. We have both retired in recent years. I spent the first couple years of retirement taking care of my elderly parents' needs the best I could. Both my parents have now passed away, and I am carrying on their love of family with my genealogy research. I know they would be proud. I wish I could share it with them. |
My family surnames that I research are: Matthes, Suppe, Wolford/Wulfert, Thomas, Martin, Holmes, Dotson, Rhea, Austin, Walker, and Blanchard. Most of my research has been in Texas, but has taken me to Missouri, Virginia, California, and North Carolina data, as well.
My husband's family surnames that I research are: Greer, Stepherson, Petree, Goolsby, Fails, Cook, Rose, Yawn, Hughes, Martin, Bellnoski/Bilnoski, Snow/Snoe/Sniegorski, Ketkoski/Kwiatkowski, and Matelski.

|Jack Brannon||Let's go back......|
The summer of 1967....a 13 yr. old young girl by the name of Velma Matthes spent her summer with her older sister Faye practicing and playing softball at the Jack Rice Field in Bay City. Our leftfielder, and Fay was our pitcher - that pitched every game for two seasons - for the Robbins's Ranchers. My mentor, Palmer Robbins and I were at every game. I still have the score books 48 yrs. later. I have put together a small book of my experiences at the ranch, and have also included all the game stats and pictures of "The Ranchers".
Contact Jack Brannon for your copy - 2217 Austin St., Bay City, Texas 77414, 979-240-5860.

Is Elijah P Dale an ancestor of yours?
He is my 4th great grandfather and would love to exchange information if you have more on the Dale or related families.
If so, I'll email you some of what I have and we can correspond through email instead of on here.

Sure, add the photo. Yes, our antiques shop is in the same building. If you save the picture to your computer and enlarge it, you can see a washbowl and pitcher, lamp, guitar in the window. You can see the limestone step which now has a cement ramp over it (I like the step better), and the basement windows. Sidewalk covers that stuff up now. In the basement, you can see the old door and window openings closed up. Cool!

Found a marker Laura Suppe (1887-1932) buried next to Julia. Plot information Vesperland, Lot 253, Space 3. Inscription is Daughter. Didn't see a memorial created for her.
