Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am Velma (Matthes) Greer. I have lived in Montgomery, TX, for about 15 years, but grew up in Bay City, TX. I was an elementary teacher most of my life, and my husband, Jerry Greer, was a teacher/coach. We lived in several towns in Texas throughout our careers. We have both retired in recent years. I spent the first couple years of retirement taking care of my elderly parents' needs the best I could. Both my parents have now passed away, and I am carrying on their love of family with my genealogy research. I know they would be proud. I wish I could share it with them.

My family surnames that I research are: Matthes, Suppe, Wolford/Wulfert, Thomas, Martin, Holmes, Dotson, Rhea, Austin, Walker, and Blanchard. Most of my research has been in Texas, but has taken me to Missouri, Virginia, California, and North Carolina data, as well.

My husband's family surnames that I research are: Greer, Stepherson, Petree, Goolsby, Fails, Cook, Rose, Yawn, Hughes, Martin, Bellnoski/Bilnoski, Snoe/Sniegorski, Ketkoski/Kwiatkowski, and Matelski.

RE: Photo for James Alton Walker and Velma Walker
The only data for Velma is what is on the headstone in the picture. The other side of the headstone has James' information. They share a headstone. The active duty person is on the front and the military dependent (spouse or child) is on the backside. But if the dependent military person dies and the one that was active duty is still living, the dependent one will be on the front of the headstone. Then when the military person passes on, the headstone is redone and the dependent goes on the backside with the military person on the front. They share the headstone and are buried in the same plot. Many headstones show there are 3 people buried in the same plot and if I look closer, I'm sure there are some that have more than 3. And as mentioned, the military person is put on the front of the headstone while the dependents are listed on the back. If both were in the military they both qualify to have their own burial site but I am seeing more and more put together in the same plot and using one headstone. In that case, it doesn't matter which one is in the front on the headstone and the other on the backside. Their ranks will be included with their names and people will know they were in the military.

James Walker
Hurray, I just got James' picture to come correct side up. I hope it stays that way. I'll recheck on it in the morning. It's getting late here in El Paso. Sorry for all this confusion. LC

RE: Photo for James Alton Walker and Velma Walker
Hi, This is really screwy. I just noticed that the picture on my Find A Grave Bio is sideways too. I took that picture of the hummingbird on my back porch with my ipad and it was straight, right side up earlier today. Now it's side ways. I'll work on it now and see what I can do. again, sorry. LC

RE: Charles Rafe Carpenter
Ms. Greer,
We are so sorry for the wrong picture. Our contact at the Angleton Cemetery Assoc. did not inform us that there were 2 Charles R. Carpenters there, or we would have began a secondary search by birth and death dates which is our SOP.

I took the incorrect pictures down and will begin the search for the correct marker ASAP

Again I sincerely apologize!

RE: Bohacz family
Thanks, I never heard from the record keeper. I'll go out today a take another look. Your information will greatly narrow the search area.

Glad to do it! It was a beautiful day to be out taking photos, and the lady at Angleton Cemetery was extremely helpful.
