As a student of my maternal grandmother, the family historian before anyone considered themselves such, I have listened to oral history of my ancestors for many generations.
Oral history about the lives of those who settled in the mountains of Virginia in the late 1700's, a place I still hold very dear to my heart. Oral history about my ancestors who fought in the War Between the States, losing children as babies or as young adults with "TB" and surviving during the Great Depression.
Oral history that as child left me wanting to know the little ones who were in heaven before they knew how good a warm tomato, fresh from the garden, on 'light bread' with mayonaise tasted as we kids had dinner at the picnic table with iced tea.
Robert Jack Bland Good morning I was reviewing the website, and was wondering how can I obtain a copy of the obituary for Robert Jack Bland deceased on 1/7/2005, and services were at MT Poole Baptist Church. I have been informed Jack was my uncle and I am trying to find any remaining family members.
Thanking you in advance for you assistance Constance
Laura Metz Nichols Your memorial #98086078 has Laura buried in Salem. Memorial #138838861 has her in Restvale and says that is where she is. Your memorial is older. So please check this out and move if need be and edit the other one for deletion. Thanks
grave for Samuel Overfelt Hi Kathie.. I saw you have a photo of my grandmother's father's grave. Samuel Overfelt. Are you related to us? Did you know him or anyone in his family? please write me at my email or you can call me if you prefer.
RE: ETTRICK CEMETERY PHOTOS Kathy, Thank you for all of the kind replies you sent me and I understand. We had a newly created memorial section made in Ettrick Cemetery for the Soldiers of the Confederacy whose graves were unknown exactly. this was by the Sons of Confederate Veterans with full color guard, taps, service by the President of the group, and so on. A new flagpole and Confederate flag was also presented and raised. Very touching and each soldier had a memorial grave stone. It's beautiful and I thought the pictures would give such a nice presentation of the cemetery since there are over 100+ Confederate soldiers and one Union soldier buried there, but I did submit them and no word one way or the other ever was sent to me back. Thanks so much Kathy for trying. God bless, Sue (SM)
RE: ETTRICK CEMETERY PHOTOS Kathy, First, thank you for offing to remove your photo. It is already on the memorials set up n Ettrick, it would just be the newer ones. David Wrght also had me try to post one of a map/diagram inside the cemetery to make it easier for family or friends to find their grave sites but that didn't post on there either . dont' see anywhere to contact Find A Grave about this but the photos are fabulous. any help is appreciated but not sure why they are controlling YOUR photos! I have posted one of the photos on one of my Civil WAR memorials on here if you want to see it. GO to Ettrick Cemetery, then put the initials R.W.W.(think that's right going by my memory) THERE is no full name for him in the cemetery records. I submitted it MOnday and still not on there . THANK YOU. Sue
ETTRICK CEMETERY PHOTOS Kathie, We recently attemped to add a couple of updated photos to the Ettrick (VA) Cemetery page but there are too many previous photos currently on there. the new photos are of the recently established CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS MEMORIAL SQUARE including the Color Guard Sons of Confederate Veterans Dedication service done November 1, 2014 at the cemetery. The photo I am attempting to add shows the new square, the color guard with their gun volley and taps, the new flag pole with the Confederate Flag and the new grave stones of approx. 100 Confederate soldiers buried there. I have about 3 different ones to add. Would you consider removing any you have posted so we can accomplish this for the cemetery and those buried there? This is being sponsored by David Wright, Sons of Confederate Soldiers through me and my Find A Grave acct. #47765800 We all would very much appreciate it! thank you! Sue (SM)
