I am retired so I have time to walk through the cemeteries and take pictures. In mid July 2010 I started a project to record as many memorials for the cemeteries in my county (Broome, NY) with pictures that I could. This project is done. I have moved on to cemeteries in Susquehanna PA and Tioga NY.

The following link will show all the cemeteries in the surrounding counties photographed (by me and others!) and added to Find A Grave:

Broome County NY Cemeteries
Tioga County NY Cemeteries
Susquehanna County PA Cemeteries
Have started Chemung County - no map yet.

Cemeteries Statistics as of 05/15/2016 (by County): ...... # cems . # Mems ... w/photo
Broome ........... 149 .. 190,882 .. 177,237 (92.8%)
Chemung ........ 125 .. 118,576 .... 45,136 (38.1%)
Susquehanna . 195 .... 59,514 .... 46,757 (78.6%)
Tioga .............. 104 .... 66,513 .... 57,391 (86.2%)

If I have added memorials for any of your relatives, please thank me by visiting a nearby cemetery and add the gravestones there for others to find their relatives.

You have my permission to use any picture taken by me for private uses. For public use, you may use them as long as I am given credit. For commercial use, please contact me.

If any of the memorials I have created need updates, please contact me using the edit tab. If any are a relative of yours and you want to manage them, let me know and I will transfer them. Please use the edit tab and SAC to ask for a transfer or update.

Hi Paul
Thank you for taking all of the photos that you have. I am from Long Island and my stepdad's family in from Chemung County. He now lives in Tampa, Florida. So, it is nice to see a picture of the headstone of his relatives and to be able to share that with him as we will not likely be able to get out there for quite some time. Thanks again for taking the picture of Maude and Harry Earle Raplee's headstone.

RE: Johan O'Brien
Thanks as always for watching over me, Paul, but for once, I'm right. :)

I have her death certificate, in which she is named as Joan. Her name was spelled both with and without the 'h' in various census forms, Johanna or Joanna.

In her childhood Scotland censuses, it's the same way for both her and her mother - sometimes Joan, sometimes Joanna.

I should have sent you a warning first, since I certainly agree regarding Johan appearing to be a male.

I didn't know that there was a methodology for saving someone as a male or female on Findagrave, or was that comment only due to the assumption about the name?

Happy New Year, JIM
