|We both enjoy the hobby of genealogy, and value the information that can often be gleaned from grave markers. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MAKE USE OF ANY PHOTOS WE'VE POSTED TO ENHANCE YOUR FAMILY TREE. Once we're retired (in a few more years), we plan to become more active as photo volunteers to be able to contribute more.|
FYI: We are working towards photographing all of the approximately 2900 grave markers at the Veteran's Cemetery in Esquimalt - Sections AA, BB, CC, D, DD, E, F & OFFICE have been completed - Section C is in progress. Sections A & B to follow. If you'd like a photo not yet uploaded (or a retake on any existing photo), please post a photo request, and we will get it at the first opportunity.

Hi Betty & Dan,
I have also been getting requests for photos from Ross Bay Cementry. Maps show that I am only 21 miles away - but that is a long, expensive 21 miles across the Strait of Juan De Fuca. With all the wonderful work you have been doing, I wanted to check in with you before I make a trip. I notice that you have been unable to find many graves. Is it worth another search or were they in the washed away area? There are also 4 unclaimed requests with no problems reported. What is their status? I marked as claimed but will gladly unclaim unless I can help in some way help. What is the status on the Love and Leask requests? I can see online that you have filled all the other recent requests but don't know about those two.
If I do come over, I would love to meet you. I am totally new to grave photography and you have had so much experience. I will come on Oct 22 & 23 if I can be of use to you in this project. Cheers from south of the border, Margaret

And all I wanted to say was it was we were not supposed to add obituaries and I do know of those asked to remove them. Did not know of the 1922 thing so that is good to know but still would only add that to my family tree and not on a memorial.
I think they look tacky on a memorial.
I cringe when I see them as well as death certificates on memorials as neither are usually accurate.
Having faced death, maybe that makes me a bit picky about a memorial being so like the grave.
I Also see the rules for that has changed. Or someone told me this was the rule and I missed it! Consider my wrist slapped! :)
I'm betting you are from Canada, eh!
Numbered list, Military?
And here's hoping you have a great week Dan! Betty too! Thanks for the reply. Keep well!
Thank you kindly!!!!

Thank you for the wonderful photos of the Brown headstones. I am awed by the generosity of people like you who do this for others. I sincerely appreciate what you have done for me.

I would rather this was a private message but you do not have an email address added. You are adding newspaper obituaries to memorials and this is not allowed. Anything added must be your own photo and not copied. Obits are to be added in the bio and credited if from another source. If you look in the rules you will find this.
I added photo's to a couple you have added news clippings. :)
My brother was stationed in Esquimalt. He isn't buried there but was cremated and scattered at sea.

Betty and Dan! Thank you so much for taking these pictures for me and also sending the Obituary as well. I live in Burnaby and don't get to the Island very often so you have done a huge favour for me!
I did know that Joseph Blackburn Greaves Son was Interred in Ocean View Cemetery but Unfortunately Ocean View does not publish a list of Internments and do not like to respond to requests for Grave locations. Other Researchers have complained as well but it seems to be their Policy so not much you can do but go there and walk through the Cemetery and hopefully finding it.
Thank you again and if I can assist in any way please ask!
Best Regards, Jim Willows

PS: I hadn't seen your message on my profile page when I sent my previous note. Few volunteers 'go extra miles', and imho you've done that and beyond! :)
Yes, edits have been submitted, including linking to his parents, and as I said, I've been watching for them to be approved. Thankyou again so very much!! :D

Thankyou _so much_ for posting photos of the unmarked grave of my 1st cousin 4x removed. I had placed the Photo Request only two days ago(!!), with the usual hope of "maybe someday in the distant future", and also submitted a few Edits, so have been 'watching' the memorial for the Edit changes. I was certainly astonished this morning to discover your two lovely pictures, complete with embedded notes! Your time taken in finding the spot and your kindness in going to the trouble, are most sincerely appreciated. :D :D :D
Best wishes, =]) Beth
