Thanks so much for all the information. You have been so helpful putting the pieces together for me. It's like being a detective. When I finally solve the mystery it is so exciting. Some people would say it doesn't take much to excite me these days, but I love my job and finding heirs, especially and people who were born in the 1800's can be quite challenging.
I'm sure you feel the same way I do as most people who do genealogy. Anyway, if I can ever help you with anything, please let me know. I would be so glad to assist.
It is absolutely amazing that you found this article on Mary. I cannot tell you how excited I am. I realize that sounds really silly, but, it was like she fell off the earth. I have search extensively for something about her. I had found something that came so close stating that she died in California according to the California Death Index. You are a genius. Thanks so much for all the research and hard work on your part. I truly appreciate it so much.
I do have one question. The obit states that she had a sister, Mrs. Baird. Well, her sister's name was Johnnie Elizabeth Lancaster Guillentine. I have Johnnie's obit, although she died after Mary, she makes no mention of her sister Mary in her obit, but she does mention the half-sisters and half-brother that are mention also in Mary's obit. It could just be a typo. Major typo. But everything else clicks.
RE: Hammetts Hi, Thanks so much for responding to my e-mail. I believe that J.O. Hammett died in 1939, the same year that his brother Robert died in Luling, Tx. He and his wife, Mary Lancaster Hammett lived in Houston for several years. The only Mary Lancaster I could find was a California Death Index which was for the year she was born and dying in Los Angeles in December of 1926. Maybe she was visiting relatives at that time. In the 1930 Census, I found J.O. Hammett living with some friends, W.P. Collins and stated that he was a widower. Then I found a J.O. Hammett deceased in 1939 in Harris Co., and being buried the next day in Waxahachie, TX
So if I come across anything else I will let you know. It has been a mystery. They lived in Ellis County, Dallas, Luling and Houston. I followed the Census and Directories, but no luck. Mary Hammett was a common name at that time also. And men went by initials, so you wonder sometimes if you have the right person.
I am trying to find where in Waxahachie, Ellis Co., TX, a husband and wife are buried.
J.O. (James Oliver) Hammett who died in 1939; and
Mary E. (Lancaster) Hammett, who died in 1926.
I was told that J.O. died in Houston, TX and was buried the next day in Waxahachie, TX
J.O. and Mary were married in Ellis County, Texas and lived in Houston for several years. But, I believe she died in Los Angeles in December of 1926.
Any information would be so very helpful. Also, I know that J.O's parents are buried in the Waxahachie City Cemetery. Hamilton Marion Hammett and his wife. According to your info, no markers but you gave a number.
