Green
In preparation for a trip up in the Louisburg NC area, I was checking for photo requests and came across one in Westminster Evangelical cemetery. I checked to see how many others did not have photos and noticed that you have Welford Green as the son of Mary Yarbourgh Green although he was born a year earlier than she. Is it possible he should be the husband not the son?

RE: Cousins
I live in Raleigh.. We have Hawkinses in City Cemetery and in Oakwood Cemetery.
I was just reading about your Philemon. Freeman's pages say that John Davis Hawkins was your Phil's executor. He was his sister Eleanor's executor too. I recently read that he hired out some of Eleanor's slaves and after she died he claimed them as his own. Eleanor's children had to sue their own unle for an accounting of their mother's estate.
If you ever want graves photographed let me know.
Where do you live?

RE: Cousins
I wanted to participate in the Hawkins DNA project but was told it requires a male with the Hawkins name so I couldn't.
I will send you a photo of Eleanor's portrait. Also I have a photo of Jane Hawkins, along with John D., Frank, Dr. William, Alexander Boyd Hawkins (he and my aunt Martha adopted my grandmother so we have quite a lot of info about that group of Hawkinses-children of John D. Hawkins and his wife Jane Anderson Boyd). I wish I could find an image of Sarah Hawkins Polk (Eleanor's sister). Sarah married Revolutionary War hero Colonel William Polk. Sarah came up with the idea for the Experimental Railroad that hauled granite into Raleigh to build the Capitol. It made her a wealthy woman at a time when women were not in business. Eleanor and Sarah were instrumental in the founding of Christ Church Episcopal in 1821.

Yes of course I would love to share info, pictures etc etc with you! The Hawkins Bible is on line through N C Archives and History too. We have photos of several of the 19th century Hawkinses. Are you familiar with the silhouettes of John D. Hawkins and Eleanor Hawkins Haywood? Seems like everyone in Raleigh has them. I look forward to talking with you.

RE: Hawkins-Carroll Cemetery Flemingtown Rd
Hi, I am descended from the folks I was visiting yesterday! Col. Philemon Hawkins and Lucy Davis Hawkins' oldest child, Eleanor Howard Hawkins, married Sherwood Haywood. They are my great great grandparents. Eleanor's sister Delia married Sherwood's brother Stephen Haywood.
We own the Bible from that branch of the Hawkins family so my cousin and I checked the dates to make sure we had them right. The stones definitely are hard to read.
Which Philemon was married to Jacobia? There must have been 100 of them.Makes it hard to trace the family!

Several corrections need to be made! In the description, the cemetery is behind Pleasant Hill (formerly known as Rivenoak, about 200 yards across the field and up the hill.It is on the same side of Flemingtown Rd.) The Hawkins graves are on the left side of the graveyard.
I'm Col. Philemon Hawkins' 3 great granddaughter. Went to the site yesterday and need to correct dates on some of these stones (we have the Hawkins family Bible too and I verified the dates that are hard to read on the stones.)
Col. Philemon Hawkins junior was born Dec. 3, 1752 and died Jan. 27, 1833. [for family looking for him- he actually is Philemon 3rd, but is known as Junior even on his gravestone]
Joseph W. Hawkins was born Sept. 15, 1785 and died August 4, 1842
George W. Hawkins born October 20, 1793 and died March 26,1816
Lucy, wife of Col. Philemon Hawkins, is correct.
Benjamin F. Hawkins born Oct. 28, 1787 and died Nov. 12, 1828
You need to remove Philemon Hawkins Sr. from this site- he is not there! Also the dates are all mixed up between him and his son the Colonel. He was married to Delia Martin Hawkins, and I understand that he and she are at the Hawkins cemetery near Warrenton but I could not find it yesterday. I'll be happy to help if you have more questions. beastie510@hotmail.com (Betsy)

Hawkins Family
Was wondering, I recieved an email about transfering some of the Hawkin family and my email went haywire. Was this from you. I had transfered 2 to you and was wondering if the email was from you wanting the rest of the Hawkins transfered. If it wasn't you, sorry for the mix up.
