Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am an 8th generation Durr from South Carolina. My family roots grow very deep into the soil of the counties of Orangeburg, Dorchester, Colleton, Berkeley and Barnwell.

I've researched and traveled across the Lowcountry part of the state to where my ancestors settled, to dig into musty courthouse bins, rooted through libraries, and traipse cemeteries.

Even after many years of research, I am awed when I look at the old family tombstones, bible, land plats, Last Will and Testaments and keepsake pictures with so many lineages and thinking of the forklore of many generations past touches my heart.

I currently reside in Blythewood, SC. If I have made any errors, please feel free to contact me.

Some of the families I research are; Durr, Ruple, Bell, Salisbury, Murray, Weathers, Whetsell, Miller, Ayers, Way, Beach, Bozard, Keitt, Strock, Dukes and Johnson.

Fairfield County Genealogy Society
Mr Durr, we have run into each other several times here on grave finder...I do not know what your time is like, but would like to extend an invitation to join our Fairfield County Genealogy Society which is located inside the Fairfield County museum. Our website is www.fairfield.SCGen.org. Our hours are T-F 10:00am-5:00pm and saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm. We have a grave committee, headed by Jon Davis and I know he would love to have some more help....note I am on this committee.....We go out as often as we can and document graves in Fairfield, we are currently working on our lost and abandon cemeteries. Please consider us. I know we would benefit greatly from your admission. Thank you for your time. Debby Van Sant

Ruple-Ayers Connection in South Carolina
Hello,

I have been working with a life-long friend for many years on her genealogy. She is a descendant of John Louis Ayer (sometimes spelled Ayers) from the Orangeburg District of South Carolina. He married Julia Marsh of Charleston and seems to have moved back and forth from SC to Floyd County, GA and eventually to Louisiana where they both died. One of their sons, Walter Raleigh Ayer was my friend's great grandfather. I have seen a reference to John's possible parents as Downing Ayer who married an Elizabeth Ruple both of SC. John Louis Ayer would have been born about 1810-1830, I think. Does this information sound familiar to you? We have researched in Charleston and some in SC, but have found no information that is directly related to John Louis Ayer except his presence on census records starting in 1850. Any help you could give us would be appreciated. I am in NC and she is in GA and we could both travel to SC for research if we had some direction to go. THANK YOU, Emily West

RE: James and Emmie Thompson
You're very welcome. I'm no relation and, noticing her mother's maiden name, figured they're probably in your family tree. I generally have no problem transferring to family.
