Bio and Links
Bio Photo I found this site by accident and discovered that some kind person had posted my mothers grave information in North Carolina. I would like to help in a small way return the favor granted me by taking some photos. My primary interests are the Harris Family in Montgomery County, NC and VA, the Davis Family in Moore County, NC and the Auld Family with graves in Wilmington, NC they were originally from Pennsylvania.

RE: Miley Find A Grave Memorial# 92969283
She was raised by my 4th great grandmother a midwife her name was Frances Thompson Byrd. My great grandmother remembered her. I have an account of her that was printed in a Montgomery County Heritage book. I don't have a whole lot more than that. There is a pitcher that Granny Byrd's husband sent to her from Philadelphia Pennsylvania during the Civil War. Miley had possession of this after Granny Byrd died, she passed it on to Sara Strother my 3rd great grandmother, it still remains in my family. I do have a relative that is still living he is 97 years old that remembers her he went to church with her at Stoney Fork Baptist Church.

Thanks Kevin, he certianly was a 'fine person' in his own rigths. I thought posting the DC would be good for any one that wanted to see the conflicting dates. Sure do appreciate all that you have helped me accomplish.

RE: Martha L Harris Byrd
That will be fine. I may already have some. My 3 kids were with me at the time. We were all armed with a camera of some type. I sent them out to take pictures. Sometimes I get good ones and sometimes I think my cat could do better than I. lol
I understand about the one with the temp marker. I wrote up and took pictures of almost all of the stones in the Mt Mitchell UMC cemetery (Kannapolis, Cabarrus Co, NC). There were a few with some temp markers that were quite old. After more research, I found a whole family who did not have markers at all. Very sad, indeed!

If I get a chance, I will upload the other pictures to my blog: .

If you need to, you may email me at: floosyjane[at] . Just substitute the [at] with @.

RE: Martha L Harris Byrd
No problem at all! Many people have helped me along so I am more than happy to return the favor.

The church is about 2 miles (if that far) from me. We are actually moving in about a month so I thought I'd get them while I could. Are there any others at the church you would like?

I did find one for a Byrd (same church) that is bugging me because I can't figure out who it may be. I thought maybe Milley Byrd but I'm not sure the headstone is that 'new'. It is much older than Martha and Thomas Byrd's stone.
Would you like the few I have?

Burl Jerome Harris
Thank you so much for the informaton on your great grandfather Burl Jerome Harris. I did not have that information and very please to correct my dates and recorded their headstones to reflect the change. Again I want to learn all I can about this Strother/Harris lineage because I too am a relative of this lineage.

Warm regards, Gail Strother

RE: Absolom Strother
Kevin, I don't have a copy of his parole only the article that was submitted by another researcher who records what his 'parole paper says'....I'm sure you've seen it but this is all I have:

Absolom enlisted into the Confederacy at Cheraw, SC on 20 March 1862. Served in Captain Garden's Company of the SC Lt. Art'y. He was paroled at Appomattox Courthouse on 19 April 1865 when General Robert E. Lee surrendered. His parole paper says that he was 20 years old which would have put him being born in 1845.

He faithfully followed the Stars and Bars through four years of hardship and privation in General Lee's Army as courier and bugler, and was present when the surrender was made to General Grant at Appomattox Court House.

I'm sorry I could be helpful

Regards, Gail
