|I've been working on my Family history since I was 11 years old. I started this because of a homework assignment and became hooked when Grandpa explained that he was Grandma's third husband. I had no idea! |
I lost all my geneology computer files to a computer virus. While trying to recreate the computer files we had a flood and I lost all my notes and documents that I had collected for 30+ years. I now store my family history on Ancestry.com so that I won't have to worry about losing it again. Because of this, I try to add the gravesites for other (non-related) families whenever I happen across the information. Perhaps some of my notes will help someone else in their quest to find their roots.
I've used this site for a long time, gleaning little tidbits of information that I needed. Then it occurred to me that I may have information that someone else needs so I should give back. I signed up as a member and I've been adding my little tidbits as I find them. I hope it helps someone.
UPDATES ON MY PROJECTS!
I have photo documented the Stafford Memorial Gardens up through last summer (2012) so now we just need to keep up with the new additions. But there are hundreds of unmarked graves in that cemetery.
I have taken all photos for the AMAA Cemetery in Brooke, Stafford/Fredericksburg, VA. All names have been entered as of June 2013 and I will be adding the photos as I can. Completed!
I have completed the photos for Rodef Shalom Cemetery in Cardiff, NJ. I will be entering those as I can. There are over 4000 photos so it may take me most of the winter to get them all entered!
I have taken photos of about 1/3 of the Beth Kehillah Cemetery in Cardiff, NJ. I will be adding these as I can.
I have a new project! I have been transcribing some older records from a funeral home. In doing so there are several dispositions missing for various reasons. The body may have been donated to science, cremated & given to a family member, or the family was unable to afford a final disposition and could still be collecting funds or the person may have been buried by the state. Therefore, I now have numerous persons entered that I will update with the final disposition once it has been clarified. This funeral home also has a large number of unmarked burials again because the family was unable to afford a marker. I'm doing my best to locate those persons and document thier exact locations within the cemeteries. As my work hours start before and end after the offices at the cemeteries close, it is taking me much longer than anticipated to get accurate information.
Also, if I claim a photo request for an area not local to me don't panic. It means that I was there and already have the picture and I will upload it once I return home from my travels. Along those lines - when I am traveling I may let you know that I have claimed one of your photo requests. If you will go ahead and request the rest of your family in that cemetery it helps because if I am running out of time, memory space, or battery I will try to concentrate on requests that have been made. :)

I would like to no if you can help me find my grandmoms obituary I have been looking for a long time and can not find it
Thanks for the correction on Isadore and Katie Chaikin. Family verbal history is that their burial is in a special section of the cemetery set aside for members of the Workman's Circle. Do you have any information about this? Sarah

Thank you so much. This makes a wonderful change for us.
|familycrier||Jean Elizabeth Payne|
My name is Sharon Murray, and I am one of the daughters of Jean Elizabeth Payne, who you have added to this index.
Would you please be so kind as to add Jean's other 3 daughters as survivors to her record? Our names are Sharon Kincer Murray of Easton, MD, Roberta LaMarca Harper of Middletown, MD and Linda Joyce LaMarca of Martinsburg, WVA.
Thank you very much. I am sure you understand our feelings of being left out of our mother's obituary in error, and we appreciate your help toward correcting that error.

I will be back in that area next week and will check to see if the stone has been engraved with her death information yet. If it has, I will take a new picture. If not, I'll take another picture and update her memorial. Are you related?

Thanks for help on this one and others. My sister & I were up there to see Atlantic City and NYC and I'm the Findagrave person, but she helped take the photos, she had never photo'd stones before (some she did well with and others not so well LOL) all were transferred to my computer and I did the best I could with them, knowing it unlikely I could make a return trip, much as I'd love to visit that cemetery again. Thanks for the help with the memorials!

Carol, I also received a correction from a Judy West to add Clarksfield, Huron Co, as place of birth, and Ellen as Lena's middle name. I also misspelled Searles on Forrest's (Serles) memorial.
They are both in your control now! Have a great weekend!
Carol, I made the changes you suggested, however, I believe you may have given me the incorrect number for Charles E...should it have been 12341138, and not 38740390? If you would like me to transfer this memorial to you, I'd be happy to do that, too.
Thanks for all that you are doing for Findagrave.
