Bessie Lou Patterson McDowell was born on December 4, 1933 in Oldfield, Christian County, Missouri. Bessie was the fourth child of Jesse Robert and Lulu Mary Wolf Patterson. Bessie was born at the home of her grandmother, Mary M. Baird, Wolf, Benefiel. Bessie grew up in Major County, Oklahoma. Bessie was nicknamed by her younger siblings as "Bood". Older people called her Betty Lou, because her father's mother was Bessie. Bessie went to grade school at Pleasant Valley country school, that her father had also attend as a child. Bessie went to high school in Quinlan, Woodward County, Oklahoma. On May 18, 1952 in the home of Rev. Charlie C. Henderson in Haskew, Oklahoma, she married Kenneth Lee Roy McDowell. They are the parents of seven children. I have worked on my family history and my husband's family history for several years. I have a sister that said, "I was digging up the dead and I should leave the living alone." My husband once told a guy that "I was a grave digger". But I enjoy looking up our families.
