Mary "Polly" Reynolds
I finally figured out who she was. She was a sister of Roswell Fox Jr., so an aunt of at least two of the three women in her 1874 Wayne Co. will. At, a W. Scott Grinstead with the "Nuts Don't Fall Far From The Family Tree" tree has information posted on this family. I'm hoping to find out more about Polly from him. He has her also having married a John Wescott in addition to my GGG grandfather John Reynolds. Sharon

James Sheffer
Paul was informed by someone who has the Huron Evergreen Cemetery records that he was buried in Huron on 16 March 1902, so I switched his memorial back to Evergreen from Glenside and noted on his memorial when he was buried. Sharon

James Sheffer
After giving it more thought, since Paul pointed out that there's no record of James having been buried in the Lot 63 that he owned in the Huron Evergreen Cemetery and Eliza's obituary refers to him being buried by her, I've moved the memorial for James to Glenside and am assuming now that the obituary for Eliza was correct.

James Sheffer
After Paul shared some additional information about James Sheffer having owned the lot in the Huron Evergreen Cemetery where a wife prior to Eliza is buried, but there being no record of him having been buried there, maybe he is buried with Eliza in the Reynolds plot at Glenside. I think I should leave where he's buried open to question.

I think you may have been right about Red Creek having had a different newspaper. I saw a reference online to another newspaper in that area.

James Sheffer & Reynolds
Since my grandparents and great grandparents on this Reynolds branch were very dedicated Presbyterians in Wyoming and Nebraska, I'm wondering if the 19th century and early 20th century records of the Wolcott Presbyterian Church are available for research? Perhaps James & Eliza (Reynolds) Sheffer were members.

I'll go ahead with posting Eliza's obituary on her memorial, then make a note that it's mistaken about James having been buried with her in Glenside.

Also, I'm wondering if the Lake Shore News might have had an obituary for Mary "Polly" Reynolds who d. 2 Oct. 1877? She was the widow and last wife of my GGG grandfather John Reynolds. Polly is in the Huron Evergreen Cemetery. I lack her maiden name and her connection to the three heirs in her 1874 Wayne Co. will.

Dr. Lester & Harriet (Reynolds) Seymour
Joanne - Thank you for the great headstone photo and putting it on the memorials for all the Seymours. I never saw a headstone like that before and suspect that Capt. Lester D. Seymour, the son, is responsible for the idea. According to, he appears to have been an engineer. I explained to the woman who set up their memorials what I was doing, then asked if it'd be easier for her to transfer the memorials for Dr. Lester & Harriet to me. I'd like to give them some recognition for taking in Harriet's and my great grandmother's Aunt Eliza (Reynolds) Sheffer during her last days. She said she wasn't related to any of the Seymours in Glenside, so transferred all of them to me. Now I have Reynolds, Sheffers, and Seymours to figure out. LOL. That's likely to take awhile, but at least I'm having fun. Sharon

James Sheffer

Paul managed to get a look at the date on the other Elizabeth Sheffer headstone in the Huron Evergreen Cemetery. That Elizabeth d. in July of 1855. So it appears that she was the Elizabeth with him in Wayne Co. in the 1850 census, unless his first wife Mary Thorn also went by the name of Elizabeth.

RE: Eliza Reynolds Sheffer
Joanne - Paul found a death notice for Eliza stating that she died in Wolcott. I'm thinking that perhaps the Wolcott newspaper for back then might have run an obituary. I see that the Wolcott public library has the Wolcott newspaper archives in digital form from 1876, so I'm thinking about seeing if the research librarian at the library could take a look to see if they did run an obituary for Eliza. RE: Eliza Reynolds Sheffer
Thanks, Joanne. It dawned on me that I don't know if Elizabeth died on 8 March 1903 in the area. She was there in 1863, but could've been anywhere by 1903. Is James Scheffer buried near Elizabeth in Evergreen? If so, I should set up a memorial for him and try researching him for additional information. Sharon
