Bio Photo Hi,

My name is Chester Wallace and I've been a member of Find-A-Grave for a couple of years now. I live in Marietta, Ga. and welcome any requests for photos within a feesable distance of zip 30066. I mainly work on logging deceased family members and local cemeteries to Atlanta. At the present I am working to log Marietta City Cemetery. I'm also currently working on a project to locate the graves of the victims of the Winecoff Hotel fire in Atlanta, Georgia on December 7, 1946. I'm also working on a book about their lives as well as survivors, firemen and policeman who were on the scene so if anybody knows of anybody or family members of someone involved in the fire please let me know. I've been interested in cemeteries and especially genealogy since I was young. My grandmother would always want me to go with her to the local cemetery where I lived in Louisiana to visit her parents graves and they are on my site.

Good luck with finding your graves!

Chester Wallace

Ashley John Burns 102154717
Thanks for the memorial on Ashley John Burns who died in the Winecoff Hotel fire. I am researching his parents. Thus far I have started their memorials and have requested a link to his father William Sherman Burns #153619725. I should have a link to his mother in a couple of days. They are great people with unique histories. I haven't found Ashley's brother burial sites yet, but hope to get that done soon also.

If you have anything written up about the Hotel fire, how it happened, how it played out, I love a copy for my own records. I would leave it as you have it written up and with the credit to you if I place it on Family Tree or a public genealogy site.

Thanks again for getting the ball rollin! Really appreciate it.

James & Sarah Brooke (46803353 & 49605164)
Thank you for the photograph that you posted of James Brooke's memorial at Bascomb Methodist Cemetery in Woodstock, GA. I'm writing to ask if you might know if his wife Sarah was listed on any of the sides of the memorial. Looking at the photos, I notice that two sides are photographed and I'm curious if the other sides are blank or not. Do you have any memory of the stone or any way that you might be able to check?

Thank you again for the photograph you took!

RE: Emelda Reeves portrait
Hi Chet,

I just received an email from Allen and he had some questions which I clarified with June. She has been quite ill with laryngitis for several weeks & has been having tests to see why it won't go away.I am quite concerned, as she is a pretty heavy smoker.

I appreciate your help & know Emelda will be in capable hands. I will pay both of you a commission when it is sold. You can talk with Allen & let me know the amount. I paid June $2500 for the painting, but if necessary I will sell it for less.I wish I were in a financial position to give it to the 2 of you to share, but unfortunately, caring for another ill child has made that impossible. You both have devoted so much time & effort to that horrible day. June is ecstatic that you will get involved. It is fine if Allen shares the email with you, & vice-versa. Please let me know what questions you may have. Thanks for your help. Emelda had a lot of love in my home. Thanks - Sonya

Emelda Reeves portrait
Hi Chet,

I hope you remember me. We met with June Johnston at my home where I have the portrait she painted of Emelda Reeves, her best friend who was lost in the Winecoff Fire. I had to remove the painting from my living room wall over the past 2 years. After losing my daughter Nancy, and having my son afflicted with the same illness Nancy had,
I simply could not look at Emelda's face any longer without it reminded me of 'death'...I have it safely put away & have decided to actively sell it. I have spoken to June about it, and she fully supports & understands my decision. She offered to take it back & give me another piece of her wonderful work. That is doable, however I would rather sell it to someone who would remember the terrible day of the fire & would honor & respect the painting. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please let me know. My telephone number is 706-540-5000.I have a photo of it & I would be happy to send it to you. I would be happy to pay you a commission if you found a buyer.

Thanks for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sonya Swain
