|Dr. Joey Phillips||RE: Jonas Phillips grave stone|
Let me start by saying that the grave stone for Jonas Tobias Phillips III and Mary Jane (Coggins) Phillips is one of my favorites. I love its simplicity. I have wondered about the bird which I believe is a dove. Generally symbols of doves on christian tombstones are generally interpreted as a symbol of resurrection. There is another symbol five dots arranged in a quincunx. This one causes me more contemplation. It is generally translated as a symbol of spiritual significance. Though I am not familiar with what the significance is and am researching that.

I am fullfilling your requests for photo of C. & E. Sheets stone in Anthony cemetery in Lycoming County, PA. While fullfilling your request I also photo and posted other Sheets stones in the same plot. Check it out!

You are very welcome. I enjoyed exploring the cemetery but I do wish the historical society would try to restore it. Many of the markers are overturned and I'm sure some are covered up. I think cattle have been in the cemetery at some point and many of the graves have sunken in. I"m sure it was a beautiful cemetery at one time.
