My name is Mike Daley and I am the great-great grandson of Mose Slaton Nunley. Mose established the Nunley Family Cemetery off of what today is called Airport Road on his land in Iuka, Mississippi around 1900 due to some type of family disagreement regarding the original Carpenter/Nunley Cemetery where his father William Nunley was buried. |
My grandmother, Minnie Hilda Bacon was raised by Mose and his third wife Myra Jane until she was approximately six years old. My grandmother's mother, Minnie Alice Nunley Bacon is buried at the Nunley Family Cemetery.
My grandmother first took me to visit this cemetery in 1966 when I was a boy and many times thereafter. At the time I did not appreciate the family history nor legacy that was there but today I understand and have the same strong feelings. She died in 2005 so I am carrying on the tradition of placing flowers on her mother's grave site.
I have taken my son, daughter and granddaughter to the cemetery and hope that they too will understand the importance of our family history.

Thank you for the pic of the John A McElhannon headstone. However, I believe there's a mistake in the family references. John A was the son of James and Emily McElhannon, not George Washington McElhannon. Nor was John A's sister Frances Lavada McElhannon.
John C McElhannon, b abt 1859, was the son of G W McElhannon and the brother of Frances Lavada. The censuses from 1860, 1870 and 1880 will make this clearer.

Do you know if this cemetery is known by another name? I have a couple of obituaries for burials there, but don't find the cemetery in FindAGrave.

You're welcome. Leafy Cain and my great grandmother Minnie Holt were sisters.
I see you maintain the memorials for James and Leafy Cain.
I added a photo of them to each to of their memorials. Thought you would want to see them.

Thanks Mike. I always try to ask but have found that 99% don't care if I share their photos but then I get a real b... complaining about her photo like no one else ever visits that cemetery.
Have a great day...Robie

Hi...May I have permission to use the grave marker photos you have on Find A Grave on Bobby Gene Norwood?
