I was born in South Bend IN and raised in Elkhart IN, and moved to southwestern Illinois, near St Louis MO, after a four-year tour with the US Air Force when I graduated from high school. I have always been fascinated by cemeteries ever since I was a young child, especially small family cemeteries. In the last 30-plus years, I have delved into my family genealogy on my father's (Bjornstad) and mother's (Denson) side. My paternal grandfather, Kristian Bjornstad, immigrated from Norway in the early 1900s, eventually settling in eastern North Dakota. His oldest brother had an interest in the Bjornstad genealogy and he compiled the family record into a book and had it published in Oslo Norway in 1943, which traces the family origins to the first king of Norway. I have used it as a reference when submitting memorials for my father's ancestors on Find A Grave. On my mother's side, a distant cousin, Dr. Marion E. Denson of Columbia TN (now deceased) published a genealogy book in 1997 on the Denson families in America, tracing them back to the mid-1600s, when a William Denson came from England and settled in southern Virginia, near the present-day city of Norfolk. This book has been a great source of reference for my Find A Grave memorials pertaining to my Denson ancestors. Additionally, I want to give special thanks to Ronald C. Denson of Birmingham AL (now deceased) who also compiled a genealogy of my Denson ancestors which was very helpful.|
I also want to give special thanks to my wife, Angela Bjornstad, for her help in formatting the photos that I have posted to Find A Grave.
I am acceptable to transferring memorials on Find A Grave to anyone who requests them and who is a direct descendant of the person whose memorial I have posted, unless I am also a direct descendant. If I have incorrectly stated any information for any memorial that I manage, please use the Edit tab feature and I will gladly make the necessary correction(s). Also, I do not object if anyone posts pictures to any memorials that I created and still manage.
I do not have the ability to instantly make any changes or corrections to the Famous memorials that I have posted. Only the Find A Grave administrators can do that. If you should find an error on any Famous memorial that is credited to me, please contact email@example.com and provide them with the required changes/corrections.

No, I cannot figure out who he was. Are you coming to Pisgah Decoration Sunday?
|Yosemite||Bryan Family Cemetery (Old)|
Have been reading some of your bio's in this cemetery.
I do NOT disagree with anything you have said.
This is just a note, in case you missed it, about a piece a few years ago on the removal of Daniel & Rebecca Boone from the cemetery and the stealing of the bodies to Kentucky.
They were dug up in the middle of the night, and taken without state or family permission. I seen over 30 family bibles and their entries, and interviewed over 100 family descendants. In Ashville, MO and all around here (Warren, Montgomery and St. Charles counties).
The History Channel piece is interesting in that they got permission to dig up the remains in Kentucky and did DNA tests. Their conclusions were limited, but interesting.
Findings were: One Negroid male and one Caucasian female are buried in Kentucky.
Every family member I talked to still insists Daniel is still in the Old Bryan Family Cemetery..they also insist Kentucky got an old slave and Rebecca.
Though you would enjoy the tid-bits

William: just caught your bio on Sister Rosetta. I confess I was ignorant of her, her talent and accomplishments until PBS. Well written but most succinct. Take care and thanks ! John

Another thing I'd wondered about with some of the graves at Pisgah...I've read somewhere (wish I'd saved it!) that several graves were relocated that were going to be destroyed when they created Smith Lake. The article said that if the TVA officials could not find family members, they were just moved to local cemeteries.
I think they started all that in the late 50s/early 60s and Smith Lake was pretty much finished by 1963.
Have you ever heard that? Thought it might explain some of the unmarked graves at Pisgah and Jones Chapel...
I found some kind of cemetery list online that was done several years ago. It has some names on it that I've not been able to find markers for. I'm thinking those have either gotten broken, buried under grass, or maybe were just what people put down to mark their spot.
Linda Seymore had a copy of the old Pisgah Church Book and let me make copies of it. She didn't think the church had any kind of cemetery list, but we thought there might be something in the old book. However, it was mostly just names of members, change of letter, etc., and I didn't see a Forrester. However, my Uncle Ernest Hays was a member there which makes me think that the preacher was somehow connected. Grandma James was a Hays, her mother was an Upchurch, her grandmother was a Mauldin. There are numerous Hays, Mauldins, and Forresters buried at Duncans Creek Congregational Church Cemetery, Dacula, Gwinnett County, GA, that I am still researching.
I've followed several leads for Rev. Forrester with nothing real convincing. I thought I'd found it with that old draft record that said he was almost blind in one eye. Even though that guy is buried in Georgia (where my Grandmother James' family is buried), I thought maybe he was preaching here and the church set up a memorial headstone for him. He also has a son buried there, but I've yet to find anything that either one was a preacher.
There is also a Pisgah in Walker County that I've found connections to.

Hi, Bill. I decided to try to find out who The Blind Preacher was and added a picture of his tombstone to the Alabama Genealogy Group on Facebook. I've already gotten tons of feedback and thought you might be interested, so I added you.
|John "J-Cat" Griffith||Bi re-writes,|
Hello William, I've noticed that you've done some re-write bios to many of my famous enties. Please understand this is great, well and fine since your re-writes add more info then my enties. All I would ask if it's not to much trouble? you would send me a link when any of your re-writes is excepted and posted to you. Since I have a folder with all my said posted entries as a reference source for questions, etc. when I'm contacted my folks, please just let me know so I can update my file. Many thanks and best always,
|Phil Parris||RE: Happy Holidays|
Thanks for the update, It strange but I was thinking about Jack yesterday. Grandma had her surgery at University Hospital in Birmingham I think in 52 or 53
Keep you and yours safe in this bad weather, just walked the dog for the last time this evening. 11 pm and wind chill 1 degree that is really cold here.
Got a friend on the Columbus Ohio police department and all he can say is Damn it is cold.
|Phil Parris||RE: Happy Holidays|
Hope you had a good holiday. I haven't been doing a lot because having severe back problems can't sit long, can't walk long, can't lay long and old age took everything else away from me I wanted to do long.
It is better now, my wife had to have surgery for breast cancer in September and it hasn't been an e easy road for her. I remember when grandma Love had a breast removed about 1950, now they don't have to take the whole thing but it still messes with their head about invasion of their body.
Now that it is done the doctors want to start on my back so I guess maybe everything will be better in a couple of more months, I will let you know,send prayers
