Although I was born in Orangeburg, SC, I was raised in Bristol, TN until moving to Charleston, SC in 1966 and remaining there until the present. I was blessed to have grandparents who lived into their nineties and were sharp as tacks as to their memories. |
My mother is from Dunean, Greenville, SC and my father was from Woodside, Greenville, SC. All of my ancestors are from the upper state of SC and some include the following: WOOD, SUTTLES, YOUNG, HITT, HUNT, HESTER, BURNETT, SMITH, GREER, KILGORE, RAINES, DILLARD, RAY, RODDY, HENDRIX, PRIDMORE, GEORGE, CLEMENT, WALL, CANTRELL, LOVELACE, ETC. AND ETC. I am sorry that I had originally registered as a photo volunteer, but I cannot do it due to my health. But I will post pictures that take while doing research. Thank you.
I have a large database of peoples from upper South Carolina. It has grown to 27,433 people as of this morning. The paperwork is overwhelming. I would appreciate some encouragement or ideas of what you may have done when you got just a littled "tired" of genealogy.

I have often seen your name and flowers left on many memorials. I just made your connection to George Riley Hitt - His mother Margaret Hunt Hitt. I would love to exchange info with you. I descend from Margaret's older brother John Henry Hunt 1833-1915. I'm searching for a picture of Margaret Hunt Hitt. I have some of her children's and so on. I maintain a website and can send you a link if you'd like.

F.M. Cantrell is my grandfather. The date of his death is June 26, 1979, not June 27, 1974.

Per your request, I have linked Mrs. Griffin's memorial to her mother's memorial on Find A Grave. Thank you for providing the information.
Was she a friend or family?
I will be happy to transfer her memorial to you if you would like. Just let me know.

Watch out! My wife was a Wood from Woods Chapel Methodist Church Community, Greer, SC. You might be related.
|Kenneth Darby||Mollie Fowler Christopher|
I have changed her place as death as you requested. I only show Fairview (Greenville County) For some reason Find A Grave does not show all the townships. But this would be the same area anyway. By the way Mollie is an ancestor of my exteneded family relatives, but I appreciate the information. I have visited this grave with my b-I-l who is now deceased. He was related to the Christophers maternally and the Burnetts paternally whol all lived in the Greenville-Spartanburg Counties. Unless I am doing a direct search, I do not look for death certificates. But, even they have mistakes and many of them made by informants who give wrong information. The person taking down the information wrote it as the informant gave it to them. I know this for a fact for it has happened in my family many times.
Everyone should have some kind of document with their insurance or planned funeral arrangements with correct information so when it is given to the funderal directors it will be correct. Make sure of names and spelling, dates etc. Many time children do not know the maiden name of their mothers and grandmothers. It is a shame that we are raising a generation of children who know nothing about their ancestors. How in the world to they think they go here.

yes you can clearly see on the marker at the cemetery less than a 2 min walk from my house that the date on the marker says 1913. I dont subscribe to ancestory.com so I cant look at it but this would not be the first marker/death certificate I have seen say different dates. This is in the Williamston Cemetery in Williamston SC.

Hang in there...go to FamilySearch.org and get registered, the sight is free...never charges for anything, its protected against any EMP that could hit us as they store everything underground. The FAMILY TREE that you can add your genealogy info on for free and for UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF PEOPLE...is also supported by really nice and helpful people...AND they have a way to safely store your photos and documents online to help document each person....and did I mention its FREE!
And you might try to find a local Family History Center by where you live and see if there would be volunteers there at the center who would help you put all the names onto the database. Say a prayer...you never know! Good luck
