Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've always loved hunting thru graveyards, even as a child I could be found exploring and reading the stones. I participate in many memorial services as a "Black Rose" (mourner) with the TN Society Order of Confederate Rose. Tho' I don't know but few of the names I list I believe everyone should be remembered, their lives are full of stories we'll never know, most leaving just a rock to speak their existence. I live in middle Tennessee, we have many small family graveyards here. As a genealogist I have found clues and info on FAG I've not found elsewhere. FAG has many errors and I'm more than willing to correct any that I may have on my memorials. Also I am NOT into the numbers games I believe information belongs to us all, ask NICELY I will transfer to you.

RE: Your Bio
The Knowles connection - I am very sure is not mine - they came from NC to GA to FL.

The Headrick link - we have TONS of Headricks from Seveir County, TN - look up Headrick's Chapel Cemetery and you will see them. I do not know if any went to WV, but it is possible.

My husband's 3rd G Grandfather was John Headrick 1775 - 1867 who was born in Pennsylvania, but died in TN. - 3 older generations were from PA, but his 6th great grand father, Cohen Heinrich Headrick was from Germany.

Hope this is clearer than mud! Merry Christmas from Alabama

Yancy Independents.- Worth County, Ga..you do know that unit is still alive? They have a website. It takes awhile to get an answer but I touched base with one of their members several months ago.

Have not seen these cemetery names before ..sure thank you for the information. Down here all I seem to find is the state and sometimes name of town where they died. ..Never a name of a cemetery! So have to Google..usually with no luck. Thanks again. Will keep this & use it!

No I am a researcher from Worth and Tift Counties, GA. I saw your message from him and asked for the same book to help me de-tangle and connect the Fords in Tift and Worth. I grew up next door to a wonderful Ford family and have been trying to get them figured out for years..since they are buried close to my parents at Isabella. Thanks for your help!
Next year is 150 year of surrender...and I am searching out all confederates in our area to get them listed so S. C. V. can get them onto THEIR SITE also. Thanks for wonderful message!
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GREAT NEW YEAR!

You posted his CSA unit on his memory page. But I have been unable to find it listed either in virtual vault of GA pension records, or Fold3.
Can you tell me how you found it? Does he have another name besides Folton??Family knowledge???
Thanks so much.

Can you tell me if there are unmarked graves in the Colonel Smith Cem. on Hollemons Bend Rd in Granville, and if the cem can be accessed? Col. Smith was my 4th great Grandfather

RE: Yancey Independents
This it quite an interesting discovery. Our Camp published a book on the history of the Yancey Independents. We knew that Lt. Weeks died in Huntersville, but we knew nothing of Pvt. Roderick Manning McRaney. We had a Pvt. Daniel James "McCranie" and a Pvt. George W. "McCranie," who may have been his brothers.

It's sinful that these men don't have stones and our government is doing the best it can to discourage folks like you from placing them. I'll ask around and see if I can't find any of his descendants.

We've sold out of hard copies of the book, but I could e-mail you a pdf version at no cost if you're interested.

Many Thanks,
Russ Ottens

RE: Officer Graveyard
I'm trying to follow your directions on Googlemaps.com but it appears Rock Springs splits 2 or 3 times. Can you take a look at the map and give me some idea which split? If you use google maps to place it, you can right click on the spot and it'll bring up a menu - one of the choices is 'what's here?'. Click on that & it'll give you GPS coordinates for the spot your cursor is on. That would be such a terrific help in finding this little cemetery, if you could. Thanks so much.
