Bio and Links
Bio Photo I enjoy going to the cemeteries and looking for gravestones of my family and looking for requests for other people. It makes me sad to see some stones in bad shape and some cemeteries so overgrown with weeds and not taken care of. I work full time, but I try to get to the cemeteries on my days off when I can. I spend many hours looking for other members requests. I don't do it just to get the credit for a request, I have added more photos to memorials than what shows on my credit for doing requests. I really enjoy looking for the gravestones and it is very relaxing to me. I love the old cemeteries, but a lot of the gravestones are very old and in bad shape. There is a lot of information you can find out from a gravestone.

Note: The Dement Cemetery in Ohio County, WV is a very old cemetery located on private property. Many of the stones are very difficult to read and some dates may not be exactly right. Let me know of any corrections.

The Dallas Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Dallas, WV in Marshall County is another old cemetery with many old stones. Some of the names and dates may not be correct. Many of the stones are difficult to read. Let me know of any corrections. I have found many gravestones of people that are not on the list in the cemetery books at the library or some with the names not correct.
In the spring of 2013 the Dallas Presbyterian Church members had two clean-up days to clear all the wooded area behind the church. They cut out many old trees and weeds. This area hadn't been cut or cleared off for about 15 or 20 years. There are many gravestones in this area. Some of the young members of the church have continued to try to keep it cut through out the year of 2013 and have continued their work into 2014. There is still a lot of work to do. Some of the gravestones have fallen over, some stones have been buried in the dirt for years. I have found many stones that were buried in the dirt.
I haven't been back out to the cemetery for awhile but last year 2015 when I had gone out it was all overgrown again.
NOTE!! When you looking for someone buried in the Dallas, WV area there are four cemeteries in this area. These cemeteries are being listed in Ohio & Marshall County on Find-A-Grave so check both counties when you are looking for someone buried in this area. A lot of the death certificates have Dallas Cemetery which makes it that more confusing to find someone.
The four cemeteries are:
1.Dallas Cemetery (also known as West Union Cemetery and Haneytown Cemetery). This was the first cemetery in this area about 1828. This is the very old cemetery across from the Dallas Fire Department.
2. Dallas Presbyterian Church Cemetery (this church was called West Union Presbyterian Church back in 1831. The cemetery was there before the church was built. It too is called West Union Cemetery & Haneytown Cemetery).
3.Dallas Methodist Church Cemetery started in 1855. (This cemetery is called Dallas Cemetery too) To keep things less confusing I refer to call it Dallas Methodist Church Cemetery.
4. Mount View Cemetery currently still in operation to this day.
I consider these four cemeteries in Marshall County and that is how they are listed on the Marshall County web-site.
So just check both counties when you are looking for someone's burial place in this area.. Peace to All!!

RE: Martha's stone
They don't! I will make one for both of them. Wasn't sure if Gary was buried with her or not. My mom was pretty sure the baby was though! Thanks again!

RE: Martha's stone
I think those smaller stones are her children from her first marriage. I think she had a couple of them pass in infancy and then her other son died right after she did. That sounds right, my mom thought they were all buried together! Thanks again!! :)

Thank you so much for the headstone for Martha Rauscher! Can you tell me whereabouts in the cemetery she is buried? My mom and I have looked for her for years and haven't been able to find her. I'm familiar with Mt. Zion, most of the family is buried there. If you'd rather e-mail me, my e-mail is Thank you again!
