A native of Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri. I have had an interest in genealogy and cemeteries for many years. |
My family history in Grundy County dates back to 1838. My family includes, maternal surnames WHitney/Shepard/Gibeaut/Colley:Metcalf/Tate/Carson/Morgan and paternal surnames include, Griffin/Bennett/Stanley/Lakey,Roberts/Monk/Sandlin/Comer
I grew up in the Edinburg community, Grundy County, Missouri. Most of my family still reside in Grundy County. I have lived in Dallas, Tx, and in Missouri, Cameron, Excelsior Springs before moving to Chillicothe. This past February I moved to Trenton.

|Brenda Fowler||RE: Sarah Griffin|
thanks so much for getting back to me on this. The dates of her marriages are helpful. I believe that the Ida Thogmartin you are related to is different -- I know for certain that my Ida Thogmartin was married to Wirt (Ellsworth) Barnes and had one son, who was my grandfather, Kenneth Barnes. Sarah Rutherford/Miller/Thogrmartin/Griffin has been a mystery to me because as far as I can tell she shows up only three times in the census records (I do all my research via ancestry.com) -- first in the 1880 census as the mother of a 19 year old named Emit Thogmartin (who never appears again in ANY records that I've been able to find) and then as the "grandmother" to Ida and her sister Hattie (only three members in the family) and finally living with Ida and her husband at the end of her life. At that point she was a widow and the mother of SIX, NONE of whom survived. Very sad. I really want to find out what happened with Emit, who I think may have been my great-grandmother's (Ida's) father and the rest of Sarah's children. Also, I am unable to find much more than the first name of Ida's mother -- I think it's Belle Wilson, but, again, the records are unclear. All of this father more or less moved up to southwestern Iowa in the early 1900s and then on to Cedar Falls, where my mother was born. Thanks again for your help!

I'm interested in learning more about Sarah Griffin. I believe that she was my great-grandmother, Ida Thogmartin's, grandmother but I cannot figure out what happened to all her children and husbands. How did you learn that she was married three times? And do you know anything about those husbands and her six children, all of whom she outlived? Thanks so much! I am reachable at email@example.com

My husband only knew Gordy as a duck hunting buddy. He really didnt know Gordy's family but did meet his wife and sons a couple of times when they were at the cabin next to ours at Big Wall Lake here in Iowa. Sorry but I have no way of contacting his family.

I'm not related. Would you like me to transfer her to you?

Can you share where she is buried so I can make the correction?
