I started researching my family history after my mother died from a hereditary disease but got hooked and have been climbing the family tree for over 30 years. I hope I have contributed to the family history for generations to come.|
I am a volunteer with the Portage Community Historical Society and they have allowed me to have a genealogy and historical research area in the Goin Museum. If you have an early Portage Township family, consider donating a copy of your family history to our museum.
My Favorite Poem
A Daisy Beside the Rose
by Diana Sue Lindley Horton
Among the many flowers, God,
Within Your garden fair,
May I, a simple daisy be
So proudly standing there.
I need not be the most admired,
Great beauty to disclose;
It's certain in Your garden,God,
Not all can be a rose.
'Twould be to me an honor,
If where Your garden grows,
I could but be a daisy -
That stands beside the rose.

Viola Bacon. Please put in a request for a photo. I have a picture of her headstone.

How do you change/edit/add to an existing memorial that was not done by you? A non-relative put in a memorial for our dad and my sister wants to do one. We should not do another one, should we? Do we have to get the other person to delete his? How does this work. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I added my mother to the site, however, I don't know how to link her to Michkel Joe Halford, Russell W. Halford (in Calvary cemetery Merrillville IN, nor to her daughter, Lonnda Mae in Calvary cemetery, Portage Indiana.
|Connette Blalock||RE: link her to her parents|
My Dad is Russell Waldon Halford, Mom is Rosemary Joyce Miller. Dad is buried in Calvary cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Mom was cremated and there is no grave site.
|Connette Blalock||RE: Calvary Cemetery|
Mom didn't talk about her, and there were no pictures as she was only 2 months old when she died.

This is a long time coming! I didn't realize that you added my little sister to findagrave.com. Thank you so much for your help in finding her gravesite. She died so young that I didn't even get to say goodbye to her. You were so gracious and spent a lot of time showing us your museum and helping me find the obit. We appreciate your kindness. You are truly one of a kind. God bless you for the work that you do.
My brother-in-law found this memorial while doing family research. I think my ancestor Vice Bedalov Britvic was the Aunt of Stephan Bedalow.
Vice's memorial is 127768483
I don't know if you are related to Stephan, but I wanted to send you the link in case it is of interest for your family history.

Thank you for taking a picture of Michael Durda's marker. He was my Great Uncle. I left a message and a Iris on his page. Uncle Mike was born in Czeck 25 May 1899. He departed Earth in Gary, Indiana on 1 May 1977. His brother, my Grandfather was Charles Durda (1883-1990/buried in Dover, New Jersey). Michael is buried near another relative (through his brother Charles' wife Helen (Petak) Lengyel/Durda) -- Mary (Lengyel) Ursta (Calvary Cemetery) was my Mother Helen (Durda) Grabovetz's 1/2 sister. They both had the same mother. The Ursta's lived near Michael Durda in Gary, Indiana. I knew my Aunt Mary was buried in the Calvary Cemetery, but couldn't find my great uncle. So thanks to you I have another piece of my ancestry puzzle!
You have a great day and a pleasant evening!
|Tina LaFreniere||Thank You|
Kathy, I think it is important to thank people for their kindness and even more so when you don't even know the person. You have opened up so much of my family history to me. You have made it possible to build my family tree and meet relatives I never knew I had. I am, by birth, a Schlobohm, which makes me related to the Foreman's, Slanger's, Wolf's, Frasa's and I think half of Porter County. Even with that, so much of the family history has not been recorded by the family. I guess they just expected that we would all live in Porter County for the rest of our lives and we would always stay in touch. The Porter County of today, I am sure, is something they could never have imagined. You have given me and my family such a gift, and I want you to know how much we appreciate your work and generosity.
