Bio Photo (John C. Carter)

(Will be spending part of the summer in southwestern Maine).

Happy to photograph at any cemetery in the Tampa Bay, FL area! (or in the Lakes Region of SW Maine).

Born in Dover, DE, (to parents from NJ & WV), I lived in southern CA until age 12, & then in Raton, (a small town in N.E. New Mexico), which I consider my home town. I attended NM State Univ for 4 years (with a 1-yr exchange to Oregon State Univ), but did not complete a degree at that time, & later moved back to southern CA, settling in the Orange County area. After 10 yrs in the O.C., I moved to St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay area) in 1990, & have been here ever since.

I have avidly worked on my family's genealogy since the age of 15 ... nearly 42 years ago!

I am a 27-yr member (and former chapter registrar) of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) with 7 qualifying ancestors submitted (more to come!), a member of the SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) with 10 qualifying ancestors or brothers of ancestors (more to come!), a member of the SVR (Sons of Veterans Reserve--affiliated with the SUVCW), a member of the S&DUSCT (Sons & Daughters of U.S. Colored Troops), a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey, and an associate member of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware.

(Click on my profile pic above to read the story of the Civil War ancestor with whose headstone I'm posing).

I'm very proud that every single branch of my ancestry has been in America since at least pre-Revolutionary times.

Having taken numerous college courses over the years, I finally bit the bullet & enrolled in a program in 2003 to complete my degree, & graduated from Eckerd College (a local, private, liberal arts college) in May 2005 with a B.A. in Creative Writing.

Besides genealogy & writing, my other interests include: clock collecting, books, movies, photography, the Civil War, the space program, many types of music, & visiting cemeteries!

Thanks to the creators of this site for doing such a great job!

RE: Your edit suggestions

John...I sent the email, which I have pasted herein below, to another Find A Grave Contributor in regard to pointing out good reasons to have Civil War Regiment Information appear in the "Nickname Box" before a person who is searching actually enters the Memorial.
************************************************
Placing the specific Regiment Name (i.e., "35th USCI") in the Nickname Box will greatly assist Moses Abbott's family members, or, other persons interested in him, when they search for him. If people searching can determine the Regiment Number, i.e., "35th", and, the Unit, i.e., "USCI" before they actually click upon the name, that is especially helpful when they are searching for extremely common Surnames, i.e., Smith, Jones, Johnson, Williams, etc... It would also, in many instances, allow the searching family member to determine if a Memorial Record is in regard to an African-American or Caucasian Trooper before having to click upon the Memorial Record. Find A Grave has approved a goodly number of edits which place the Regimental Information in the Nickname Box of the Memorial.

I am,

Sincerely yours,

Michael James Morton

Following your review, please advise me as to your thoughts and input in regard the matter.

Thanks John.

I remain,

Sincerely yours,

Michael James Morton

I have transferred his memorial. It is a honoring of the deceased that I create memorials and believe they should always be with family whenever possible. Thank you for caring :)

Thank you so much for getting photos of Louis and Azilda's gravestone. I really appreciate it because I am all the way up in Canada, and I would've never gotten to see them otherwise! Thank you so much!
