In early 2015, the Golden Gate National Cemetery Photography Project completed its 3-year-long effort. The cemetery, located in San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, is now 99.96% photographed, with less than 50 inscriptions that need to be photographed.|
Since March 2015, I have been photographing the markers in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo County, California. Only 16% of the 355,000 markers there have been photographed. Many of the burials are reinterments from the now defunct Calvary Cemetery in San Francisco. Theresa Miller is helping me to post the photos. We are currently posting photographs in Section B, F, and G: For Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery the San Francisco Genealogy website is invaluable:
We add new memorials as need be and add missing information and links.
Please contact me if you have taken a better photograph of a headstone for a memorial (e.g., with better lighting), and I will be happy to remove my photo.
Golden Gate National Cemetery Credits:
FAG members Samme Templin, Theresa Miller, Christine S., and Cindy S. helped post the photos.
FAG contributor Stewart Blandon completed Section 2E. Stewart also created an excel spreadsheet for the burials in the cemetery that has been vital for the project. Stewart and Kathleen Clemence added plot information to memorials.
FAG contributor Kathleen Clemence completed Section R.
FAG contributor Christine and Winmar finished photographing and posting photos from Section MA.
Notes on the Golden Gate National Cemetery:
Section A: Redo north facing markers starting with A-133.
Section E: Contains markers for 45 graves of German and Italian prisoner of war from World War II; there also about 100 graves of servicemen who died between 1865 and 1910.
Sections O to V: Completed June through Sept. 2014. Section R completed by Kathleen Clemence.
I am currently interested in the Brocher, Lahey, Williamson, Weber, and Grumann families of eastern Wisconsin, particularly Manitowoc County.
I am also researching Nuzum, Wright, Wheeler families of western Wisconsin.
Finally, I am researching Welch, Belden, Dunbar familiies of southeastern Minnesota.

Thank you so much for allowing me to use Nicholas Studen's photo in my tree. I think I may have forgotten to post this earlier. But better late than never.

You are very welcome! I am glad that I could help! There are several stones that are broken in that cemetery. I wish the people that take care of them would do something to keep better care of the cemeteries. I think a lot of it are the people that do the mowing.

I would like to know if you could link John Mitchell Cudd, #89262502, to his father Almond Buffin Cudd, #58803504. Thank you for creating his memorial.

You are welcome. It took a while since I didn't know what section he was buried in. I just chanced upon it today when I was taking a walk. The marker is surrounded by solar lights, plastic deer, signs so I didn't even see the marker until I was past and then went back to see what it said. Glad I could help.
