Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired businessman who enjoys genealogy as a hobby. I find that genealogy and "Find a grave" go hand in hand and its easy to do both at the same time and both are very rewarding. In adding Memorials for those in my family I have added memorials for many non-relatives in hope that it will help others as others have helped me. If I've submitted a relative of yours and you would like it transferred to you, just ask. I live in the Omaha metro area and thats where most of my photos were taken.Researching Bender, Ausdemore,Hittner, German,Ternus, Bockholt, Hatzenbuehler, Kramer, Wickelman and many others. Most of My family came from Germany in the Mid 1800s and settled in the North Eastern Nebraska German farming comunities and spread from there. In my research if I run across a grave of someone in the Military that is Killed in Action they get special attention and i try to find out as much as i can about them and put it on the Memorial. We owe it to these Heros and they should not be forgotten.I authorize anyone to use my photos for any reason."Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." ~~~Princess Diana

RE: German Farming Communities
I did find your page via the WW II entries - an impressive project! Hopefully Plumer may give your wife some family sources, though a large number of those settlers simply moved 'up the river' into far E Nebraska, rather than further out into the state. Always something fascinating to explore though in our families. Thanks,

Hi Loren R U a relative of this person? I was looking for some people my great great grandfather George Kaub b 1835 in Haardt Germany went to see in Nebraska to leave his three youngest children with after his wife died in 1888. Children were Elizabeth, Henry and Frederick Kaub. On his passenger manifest from 1889 or so it said that he was going to Nebraska. I do not know anything about his brothers or sisters or if he had any but I did find a Fredrick Kaub/Kaub as is stated ont eh 1870 Fed census and the 1870 non population census (spelling of his name) but I see this Fredrick's name spelled Kaup not with the B Kaub. I only found three Kaubs in Neb Fredrick, Joseph and Herman. I am thinking that perhaps Fredrick because he was born in 1832 might be my George b 1835..that he might be his brother and was wondering if you knew any more about the person buried in this grave I listed the number above??
Thanks for any help or info you would be willing to share with me about his family or where in Germany he came from etc. I believe the fmaily owned the kaub winery Thanks... Barb

German Farming Communities
Your background is quite similar to mine - I'm originally from Decatur NE. You may find a great deal of history & info on German immigrants (many of whom migrated from IA to NE eventually) at a website for Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery/Saar's Field in Mills Co IA. My Busse & Bichel family members lived there upon arriving in US and there are numerous developed leads on many of the pioneers. Keith Brandt has worked hard on this - the cemetery itself is also fascinating & in great shape as is the church where they have reunions. Excuse me bothering you if you already know this resource. Happy Graving! Sandi
