Hi Michael. I am related to the Mounts buried in this cemetery. May I use the stone pictures on my Ancestry tree? Thanks, Anne Mount West

RE: Hogue
I did see where Volcano burned to the ground in 1879, I think that's the right year and was never rebuilt.

Thanks for your help!

Hogue
Hi Michael,
Alexander's son William J Hogue died from dysentery in a Post Hospital in Clarksburg 28/29 Jul 1864. Headstones provided for the deceased Union Civil War Veterans listed the cemetery as Mount Cemetery, Wood County W.V., near Volcano. William was a Pvt. Co. D 6th WV Infantry.

Alexander passed 20 Oct 1872, headstone provided for the deceased Union Civil War Veterans listed the cemetery as Mount Cemetery, Wood County W.V., near Volcano. Alex was a Pvt. Co. K, 10th WV Infantry.

Both markers were contracted by the same person named "Bridges" on 29 Nov 1879.

Unless there is another Mount Cemetery in Wood County, I don't know why they chose this cemetery.

Mount Cemetery
Hi Michael,
I was wondering how often you get out to the area where Mount Cemetery is located in Murphytown? I'm trying to locate some relatives who were in the civil war and their records indicate military gravestones were shipped to this cemetery for Alexander Hogue and his son William J Hogue. Do you happen to know if the old town of Volcano is nearby the cemetery?

I can't find any records for this cemetery out on the internet.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Pete

Are you a member of Ancestry.com? You can view my Baillie public member tree (still in progress) by starting with my recently deceased brother Donald Scott Higgins, 1954-1014.

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I just found your message today. My Baltis is the son of Joseph, 1773-1840, and Mary "Polly" Henderson, 1773-1818. I am in my infant stage of Genealogy and appreciate any family information sent my way. Thank you. Cyndee

Founder of Cemetery - Cook family possible grave stone
Thank you so much for caring & taking the time to share a possible photo of a Revolutionary War Veteran, Joseph Cook.

I'm sorry it took me a year to notice your photos that you so graciously posted.

God Bless
