"We actually don't fear death. We fear that no one will notice our absence, that we will disappear without a trace". (unknown)|
People come to Find a Grave for many reasons; genealogy, curiosity, closure. People volunteer on Find a Grave for many reasons; genealogy, curiosity, closure. Sadly, some are in a contest to see how many memorial pages they can put in, mistakes and all, and they hold tight to those pages they've created even if they aren't related to them at all…for them it's all about the numbers.
My friend, Melinda Fowler, and I started doing this for our own families and then it quickly became something bigger…it was about other people's families. We have gotten such satisfaction out of fulfilling requests and everyone is so grateful. But it is "we" who are grateful for the opportunity to honor your relatives. We're not in this for the count, but for the gratification in connecting relatives and for recognizing the need to say "I WAS HERE".
p.s. I take a lot of random pictures in the Danbury, CT and Westchester County, New York area. If I should happen to run into your family and you would like to take ownership, by all means let me know and it's done. Families should stay together!

Thanks very much for the photographs of the grave of Dr. James Albert Meek at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, Connecticut. Dr. Meek, a native of Canada, outlived his first wife, Kate Eliza Eddy, who is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York. He married his second wife, Margaret Minton, late in life and had had only about ten apparently happy years with her before his death. Margaret remarried and outlived her second husband. Margaret is buried in the Minton family vault at Silver Lake Cemetery in Staten Island. Dr. Meek had two happy marriages but it was his fate to be buried far away from his two spouses.
