Undertakers at St. Mary's Cemetery, Oakland, CA
Hi Bernard,

Let's see; first, there is James McManus, he is in an above ground vault, section W. Now he may have had help from other family members, but that will require more research.

Beaudry, Louis Napoleon was an undertaker too. He has no marker or stone but has a large plot in section circle B.

He had a partner a Mr. McAvoy, Bernard, I think. He is in section 1.

Peladeau was another of Mr. Beaudry's partners in the undertaking business. This family I've not investigated yet, so I can't say which one is the undertaker. They are with Beaudry in section cirle B.

There is a Brennan who was an undertaker. This is a large family and there are many other Brennan's not related to above mentioned undertaker. This bit of information was given to me by one of Brennan's from Oregon who came originally from California. Part of the family moved away from here.

The Brennan famlies are really mixed up and looking is enough to make your head dizzy. So I have left them alone.

Looking at my scanned advertisments from newspapers by undertakers, a quick count gives me 51, plus or minus, different names over about a hundred year period.

Good Luck on your hunt.

RE: Undertakers
Hi. While looking for a ton of people, I make copies of the advertisments in the newspapers. There are quite a few undertakers in the Oakland area; more than 50 over a 150 year period. Many of them were also the Coroner for Alameda County too.

There are at least 5 undertakers in St. Mary's Cemetery in Oakland. There may be one more but that will be looked at after my pre-1849's search.

As a group, in St. Mary's cemetery in Oakland, they are not really big show offs with big above ground vaults and such. They do seem to have large plots with many family members.

And as I'm look for people I am pulling and transcribing articules about the Undertakers too. Interesting stuff.

Is there someone you are looking for?

RE: Paul Kerr
Yes, well, it is - or was, for him too. Not many know about Ceese; quite a guy. Same last name, but we're not related.
And, anyway, he built Old Sunnyside Mausoleum (now undergoing renovation on the Tower) and not anything at Cypress. Had some adjustments to make on the photos since the shade is so deep there. Nice area, sort of in the middle of that huge property; quiet but for the mowers and such. You're very welcome for all.

Tom Murphy Grave
Dear Bernard,

Thank you so much for locating Tom Murphy's grave and photographing it. Tom was a pioneer here in Needles, CA and it was very important to us to have his data. Again, thank you so much!
