We retired from Newton/Carlisle, Iowa to the Southwestern Missouri area in 2006 and have been passionately researching our family genealogy for the past several years. |
We have made trips to several states in pursuit of finding answers to some of our genealogy mysteries. We have also visited several cemeteries taking pictures of our ancestors headstones.
We love Find A Grave and have found pictures of several of our family members headstones posted by some really awesome people.
We are now actively involved with helping to document graves in the county cemeteries here and fulfilling photo requests for others.
We hope with our participation on Find A Grave, we can repay the kindness of others and pay it forward.

Hello Carol and Mike. i am following up on the find=-a-grave record for Jessie Brown in the Thornfield Cemetery in Ozark County, Missouri. Jessie Brown was the older sister of my Aunt. Jessie passed away as young child and the last time my Aunt visited this grave site many years ago she remembered the headstone as having fallen over and in need of repair. I found the find-a-grave entry and picture that you submitted on 9-30-2014 and the headstone appears to be upright and in good condition for being 90+ years old. As the submitter of the photo for this find-a-grave memorial can you confirm the headstone is upright? We appreciate your volunteer work to submit the photo for this grave site.

Hi Carol & Mike,
Peter Courtney is also a 3xGreat-grandfather through his son Simon P Courtney. So for that reason I would like to preserve ownership of his memorial. If there is something more you would like posted or a change I would be open to suggestions.
I have been looking for death and burial info on his son Simon P but only have found the date that his wife Phobe filed for his pension. If you or anyone reading this could provide that information I would be greatly appreciative.
|Cheryl Clark||Dudley Faris connection|
Dudley Faris is the 3Great Grandfather of Dan Gotheridge (originally from Seymour, IA..now in Florida..we visit Seymour twice a year). Dudley's first son, John Alexander Faris, married Martha McGuire. Their daughter, Mary Isabelle married Thomas Gotheridge (Tharp Cemetery, Wayne Co IA). While we know a lot about the Faris' going way back, we do not know where John Alexander Faris is buried. Martha outlived him by many years and is buried with several adult children at Tharp Cemetery. We think that John Alexander may have been buried at Unionville Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa..which was close to their home at the time. However, many stones are now gone and others are completely unreadable. We may never know where he is buried. The mother of John Alexander was Dudley's first wife, Elizabeth McAdams, whom he divorced. Although some have thought they had two sons, our records show only the one. All other children were from 2nd wife, Margaret Allstot, and 3rd wife, Sarah Clark (buried with Dudley at New York Cemetery). We have located several burial sites of siblings of Elizabeth McAdams in and around Scott County, Indiana, but have yet to find her or her parents. Hope to make those discoveries at some point. If we can ever be of help in your family history work, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org

My GG Grandfather was Mary's Brother. (James Campbell Courtney. I've been to her grave. It's a nice little Cemetery. I have a pretty good wealth of info gathered over 30 years by my Aunt, Uncle, Mother, and myself for the Courtney line. If you have questions or have any interesting tidbits feel free to contact me.
