RE: Sophronia Staton
So, we are related. When I get back into genealogy (hopefully later this year) I will link us together.

The person who caught me on the property was a caretaker I think, but maybe your cousin. He was fine once he knew who I was and my intention. Coming out I made a wrong turn and ended up at a fence right at the road. He was driving by. Gave me his name, which I promptly forgot. We departed on good terms.

Since my Mother's death I have little reason to go that way, and usually not further than Concord. Have a cousin on the other side of the family who has had a place on Lake Tillery since the early 50ths. When his parents were alive spend many weekends there. But he never invites anyone down except his son and family. His son's wife's parents (get that?) live on lake Gaston above Raleigh and spend most of their time there. He told me once no one had been to the house in a year or so. Too bad as he had completely remodeled it about 10 years ago. So, we were in the neighbor some what of Anson County. About the year 2000 discovered there was a small Staton Reunion, but was mostly old people and probably not held anymore. Most of the younger, under 50, ate and then left.

And thanks for all the new photos from the cemetery. Didn't have a thing to clean out the graves when I was there. Kept wanting to go back and clean it up with a weed eater, but never made it.
Wish there was a way to know who the slaves were that are buried there. I think Dr. Staton said that there were 12-15 slave graves.
Forgive my ramblings. Yes, I'm on Ancestry, look under Peurifoy Family or Staton Family, or rcpeurifoy.

Thanks again,
Robert

RE: Sophronia Staton
How in the world did you ever find the cemetery? I'm impressed. I almost got arrested coming out. I had been there back about 2002, pre Find A Grave, and knew the general vacinity. Was also there in the 1960's during a Staton Reunion. My Mother was with me and she had Alzheimer's. She was confused but held in there. She just wanted to get out of her house in Concord.
I had been in the cemetery about 2002. They had just logged, or were still logging and the road was wide open. It was amazing how much it had grown up in just 7-8 years. Almost did in my Land Rover.
It's been six years with an old camera and limited processing of the stones. Since Mom died don't think I'll ever be back there again. We use to go to the Staton reunions back in the 60's.
Any info on Sophronia you have would be appreciated. I am a descendant through Rosannah Benton. Haven't done much with the Staton line in 7-8 years. Fredrick Staton was my 5th Great Grandfather.
Take care and I'll be on the look out.

Thanks
Thank you so much for adding the tomb stone pictures to my Uncle Larry Thompson's page! I've never been able to get up there to look at it with my busy life. This made my day!

Thank you for the information. Would like to know more. Do you know where the father, William Lee, might be buried. There is a problem as there are two entries for Uriah Staton. I need to have them merged as I entered them both!
My Mother was a Staton. I was in the Staton Cemetery back in the 60's. Then begin looking for it again back in the early 2000's. When I finally got back there, was almost arrested! The land owner is older and the caretaker didn't know who I was.
Your help is appreciated.

Sharpe Family
Chris, I figured out my connection to Corrine Sharpe and Lurline(Sharpe)Wells. They are my 3rd cousins. Their mother Alice Adelade "Addie" Mack was my great grandfathers sister. The house in the background is where Addie grew up. It has been restored and moved down the road from its origional location.

Corrine & Lurline Sharpe
I have a photo taken at the Mack farm in North, SC. It's in rough shape but I would like your help. It shows Corrine and Lurline Sharpe sitting on a wagon.
Send me an email address and I will copy you. The email on Find A Grave didn't go through.
