I am a North Londoner of Irish Protestant and Anglo-Indian (or, to be more accurate, Hiberno-Caledonian-Anglo-Dutch-Huguenot-Indian) parentage. I was trained as a mathematician but, at the moment, am working only part-time. I have travelled a lot; not only around the British Isles, but also throughout: Europe; Africa; America (North only; I have yet to cross the Rio Grande, never mind the Panama Canal, although I did, once, venture across the Forty-Ninth Parallel for a month, and should like to go back to Canada again, sometime); Asia; and Australia. Unfortunately, most of those voyages were undertaken before the invention of the digital camera, so I can't show you too many of the graves I saw when I was abroad. When I am not travelling or working, or painting or acting, I am learning to play the piano and various woodwind instruments. I try to keep my body fit with cycling and swimming and karate, as well as by never drinking alcohol, or smoking, or eating meat, and I try to keep my mind fit with chess and crosswords and reading.

Please note; I am forever running around this world (as Jefferson Airplane once sang), and seldom check the computer when I am on my wanderings; but, if you write to me, I shall make sure that I answer on my return.

RE: Mary Jane Taylor Crawford
Thanks again, Iain. It's funny, I had baby Esther's dates in my dad's genealogy file but without a name etc., and you found the stone with name but no dates. Now we finally have it documented...

I have many wonderful childhood memories of visiting my grandfather in Lebanon (he worked at AUB for many years, and only left the country in the late 1970s when he could no longer care for himself). Also of touring in Syria and even Iran with family & relatives. The people were always wonderful to us, and the places were wonderful. I too fear that I may never make it back, given how badly things have turned in the area. Very sad.

Do you have any more information on where that cemetery outside Damascus is located? I've tried to find it on Google Earth from your description & the angle of the sun in your photo, but nothing looks like a good candidate. I don't want to geocode or put the precise location on the cemetery record, but I would like to personally know where it is, should I ever return to the country.

Cheers,
Dave

Mary Jane Taylor Crawford
Thank you for transferring Mary Jane Taylor Crawford's memorial! I will take care of that duplicate tonight if I can.
Would you be willing to upload your marker picture for the baby's memorial as well, since she's listed thereon too? Or if you prefer I can download it from Mary and upload it for baby. The baby's memorial is:

Hello Iain, I was out of town for 10 days and came home to this great suprise from this site. Thank you so much for looking up my relatives and photographing the area in that thick forested area where they may lie. Interesting! I hope the next time your out there that you will be able to find Mary's location. My Mother was right, in that they didn't have much money and couldn't imagine what circumstances they would be buried in. She grew up with Mary (her grandmother) living in their home till Mary died. Then WWII started, and all she knew was the cemetery in which she was buried. My Mother's health has been slowly failing this year, so this information and photos have come at a good time before she can't understand anymore. Thank you for your time and continuing efforts!!

RE: Greetings from London!
Thank you so much for the Pitt information and photo. I am so excited to see any info about them.. and could not visualize what you had found.. Thank you so much for looking into this. Their daughter was buried at one cemetery and then moved (supposively) -that is why she has two gravesites. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this, I am very grateful.

I'm sorry, I just realized your pictures include son Edmund, not Horatio. I will contact that contributor for permission to use Horatio's.

Nelson Pictures
Greetings. Through family stories, it is believe that Edmund Nelson & his wife Catherine Suckling Nelson are my 5th Great Uncle & Aunt (Edmund's brother Charles Nelson (1728-1795) is my 6th Great Grandfather). May I use the pictures you have shared for Edmund, Catherine & their son Horatio in my personal family tree files? I will gladly note that they are from: Find A Grave Contributor: Iain MacFarlaine #46514200. These are for my own private use and will not be posted anywhere on the internet by me.
Thank you for such beautiful pictures of the All Saints Churchyard Cemetery & the final resting place of Edmund, Catherine & Horatio.
God Bless
