Find-a-Grave rocks! |
Let me know if you need a transfer if you can add more bio info. Hope everyone gets out there and photographs some stones - that is the main reason this site exists. Thanks.
I welcome edits even if its just a GPS, plot number, marker transcription or middle name etc. I like complete memorials.
Found this inscribed on a stone in Warwick, Ma.:
"Low in the ground my bed is made,
here in the dark alone I'm laid.
Depart my friends and let me rest,
I'm weary of this wilderness."
Found this on a find-a-grave profile:
Old Bones' profile poem"
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
NOTE: A couple personal policies I follow:
1) I do not link to "burial location unknown" relatives. You're supposed to know where they are buried - that is the whole point of this website.
2) I do not list cause of death unless it is some tragic accident. Would you want to be remembered forever for dying from diabetes/alcohol abuse/suicide etc.? I find it a bit tacky - but to each their own.

Thank you very much for the transfer of Grace Jordan.

Thanks, I appreciate you creating the memorial. I'll try to take good care of it.

I found documentation showing that Grace and John McKenzie had another child, Harold W. McKenzie who was known in later life as Harold W. Maxwell. He took the name of his foster parents, Grace's sister, Edith M. Carr, and her husband Harry Maxwell. If you would update the bio for Grace I'd appreciate it. Thanks,

You definitely do not need to remove a memorial you created via a paper/online source. You work very hard at this and contribute a great deal.
I agree finding and photographing the headstone is the best situation when creating. Many people create from death records or transcripts never intending to add a single detail nor travel to the cemetery to take a photograph. They then become belligerent when asked to add bio details or link. This is basically why I work really hard, traveling all over the state and taking thousands of photos, in order for these memorials to be developed and interlinked and get them over to family members when asked (after I complete development, so the primary source data is there everyone is linked if possible).
Almost nobody does that here, some of the bios regarding transfers are just awful, you have to wonder why these people volunteer at all when the public is kept at such a distance and treated negatively if they send an edit. I get a LOT of slack from some of the larger contributors for no valid reason because of what I do. That's all the more incentive to work harder so that people searching have a positive experience here and can (via transfer) develop their relative's memorial everything it has the potential to be.
Sorry to ramble! Jim

You didn't need to delete the memorials, I would have removed those I created! Let me know if any of the new memorials are related and I'll transfer them over. Thanks for the edits! Jim
Hey Ryan, I finally (today) have completed adding memorials from the photographs I took in two Phillipston cemeteries (Center & Lower) this past fall. As I have worked extensively in Royalston, Athol, Petersham and Barre, there were many connections to Phillipston I needed to follow up on. I added about 175 memorials to Lower cemetery, and also added many photographs to memorials you have created in Lower that were in need of a photo. You did an awesome job with Center Cemetery, the only headstone I found not included looks like it had been buried or broken when you were working with the cemetery. Please see memorial #143961510 and also wife Harriet, memorial #143961546.
I did find a few people memorialized in Center who were perhaps moved to Lower as they had no headstone in the former and did have a headstone/marker in Lower Cemetery. I will go through those tomorrow and send you edits so you can move them to where a headstone exists. I am meticulous when photographing more than one cemetery in a given town in terms of making sure there is no question as to where I took the photo.
I'll be in touch soon. Jim
Well, I am glad that you are doing it. They were some I put on and forgot about until you sent in the 'Edits'. Loads of changes that have occured since they started have been forgotten by some of us.
Best regards to you and all yours, Bud
