Bio and Links

THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF FIND A GRAVE IS A GRAVES REGISTRATION WEBSITE. I will NOT link to "burial unknown" is called Find a GRAVE for a reason!

Before you create memorials please READ the guidelines! DO NOT ADD PHOTOS from obits! They are copyrighted.
DO NOT add survivors!

Please DO NOT put obits or death certificates on memorials I manage (we do not frame them and hang them). Please do not add a bio to the "flower" area.

ALL requests for links, bio's or any other information need to go thru the new EDIT button. I will verify any info sent. I may request you send me your sources and remember, "Trees" uploaded to, and various genealogy websites are NOT sources and are very often wrong! Always verify your information, don't just copy it as true! If I cannot verify your additions or links, I will place your name on the memorial as the source so people researching can contact you for further information.

I lived and worked in the Dallas area over 35 years and now reside in northeast Texas. I LOVE the older cemeteries in this area (Cass, Camp, Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Morris and Upshur counties).
I am an adoptee creating memorials for ancestors in both my adoptive and my biological family.

My apologies. I should have said "burial" not death. You are correct, he did die in California per California death index which does not show burial.

After you pointed out my mistake, I looked further into my sources and this is what I found... Before the days of my introduction to Find A Grave, I had communicated with his brother, Jesse Earl Amox. It was he who referenced James David's death certificate, stating his body was removed to Cass County, Texas. Jesse Earl never said Hughes Springs. It was after the days of Find A Grave and I found the copy of your memorial, that I added the Hughes Springs. I should have checked my sources closer.

I'm sorry for the late reply. I'm working my night shift....

Interesting there would be two headstones. Definitely a mystery. As far as I know, this James David recorded at Harris Chapel has never been to Fisher County, Texas. But I can't confirm because he was a traveler or sorts??? Although he was most documented in Cass County, Texas.

There are only two documents I can find showing James David Amox outside of Cass County, Texas.

The first shows him living with his parents in the 1940 Cass County, Texas census, which lists his residence as Louisiana in 1935. I question this record though... his brother, Jesse Earl Amox, was born in that same year in Hughes Springs, Cass County, Texas.

NOTE*** We both know census takers weren't always accurate but we still have to consider the information... That being said... We also have to acknowledge the possibility of error with Jesse Earl birth/death records, which weren't so perfect in these years either, unfortunately. BUT with all my research, including family interaction, I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of Jesse Earl's birth location (documented in the Texas birth index as being born in Cass County).

The second document I find James David Amox outside of Cass County is a divorce record in 1953. Dated 20 Feb 1953 divorce from first wife XXXX in Washington County, Texas (removed name because I'm not sure if she is still living or not). But he's back in Cass County, Texas by 1983 with a second divorce record from his second wife XXXXXX (removed her name because I believe she is still living - she is a WONDERFUL amazing open and friendly lady I spoke with many times years ago.) The only documentation of each marriage I can find is from the recorded divorce records. Neither places the location of his marriages.

With the above records I still can't place him near Fisher County, Texas. Washington County, Texas and Fisher County, Texas are over 5 hours apart. His death certificate places his death in Hughes Springs, Cass County, Texas as well.

The exact dates truly make me "hmmmm".... can not explain. It would be nice to hear from anyone who can clarify.

I've searched military headstone info and can not even confirm his military career. Info still being added I'm sure. There is no headstone application on record I have found.

Last thing, although this will not clarify your question of the double headstones... I wanted to add this for any other members of my family researching the VERY RARE Amox surname... there are two Kentucky families in the 1940 Jackson County, Kentucky census. I have not been able to officially document the connection as to where they belong but if anyone wants to contact me directly I would be happy to share my thoughts.

As to your inquiry, one of those census records shows a James Amox also born abt 1933. Although, I've always believed this to be a misspelling, it wouldn't be this first time I was wrong. I do know a limited few of the Amox family ended up in Kentucky.

1940 Jackson County, KY
First KY family-name-relation-sex-age-born
Frank Amox Head M 34 Kentucky
Roberta Amox Wife F 33 Kentucky
Clifton Amox Son M 9 Kentucky
Odel Amox Son M 7 Kentucky
Eunice Amox Daughter F 5 Kentucky
Orval Amox Son M 3 Kentucky
Oliver Amox Son M 2 Kentucky

Second KY family-name-relation-sex-age-born
Bill Amox Head M 42 Kentucky
Nancy Amox Wife F 42 Kentucky
Bheula Amox Daughter F 10 Kentucky
Arthur Amox Son M 9 Kentucky
James Amox Son M 7 Kentucky
Orvil Amox Son M 6 Kentucky

This Kentucky info surely won't help to answer your question but I always like to take every opportunity for someone to please help clarify if this Amox clan is really a unique as me... :) Or just a misspelling. Documents sure like Amox is spelled correctly.

Thanks for contacting me Tricia. You are always so wonderful to work with.
