A Cemetery is a history of people, a perpetual record of yesterday and a sanctuary of peace today.
A Cemetery exists because every life is worth loving and remembering always.
THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
By Thelma Greene Reagan
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder how you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
~ Walter Butler Palmer, 1906 ~

Hello Rainbow, I would love to seek your permission to take over management of Esther's memorial. She is my maternal Grandmother. Would that be OK? Thank you for all your hard work on this site.
Thank you for submitting the Hanzlick obituary. To comply with Find A Grave's policy, I'll need a copy of the copyright holder's written permission to republish the obit before I can add it.

Hey kiddo, I hope you had a lovely holiday.
I came across an oddity that has no clear answer. You created a memorial for Richard at a Lutheran cemetery in Pinconning. But at the same time, someone created a memorial for the same man at St. Agnes Catholic cemetery. Stranger still is that you both have photos of both the headstone and the military brass plate.
Not sure how to address it without just passing it along to the two of you. His mother just died this week and is being buried at Floral Gardens (where his dad is also buried). But I can't link both memorials to the same parents. So, in all fairness to everyone, I am asking you and the other contributor to play Solomon.
Thank you so much for your help. Goofy things happen and there's no biggie. But it would be odd for the same man to be buried in both a Catholic and a Lutheran cemetery :D
Hi Rainbow: The Sunset Gardens Cemetery reported that they have no record of a burial for Laurence nor his wife, Dorothy. So, I researched the obituary for Laurence who died on 25 Dec 2005 in Seattle, WA. There was no funeral service at the request of the family nor any reference to a burial or cremation. Art

Was wondering where you found information on an unknown Hood. An infant born to Hosford Hood and Eugenia Hood? This is my husbands mothers sister but thought she was buried somewhere else. Any information would be helpful. It says she is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery located in Cloud County Kansa. Thank you!

Rainbow, I believe you have the wrong picture on Bill's memorial. It's a picture of Albert. Will you please remove it? Thank you. Wilda
I see you've done a lot of work adding obits to memorials. It is very much appreciated. I know it takes a lot of time but is very helpful. Thanks for your efforts!!
