My great-grandmother was born 26 Feb 1860. She died 21 Apr 1921.
|Orange Mike Lowrey||Fred "Fritz" Schmitz misidentified|
The member of the 26th Wisconsin Infantry, Company F, was Friedrich Schmidt, not Schmitz, of Maple Grove.
Fritz Schmitz was from Northeim in the Town of Newton; even when he was in the Assembly, his district (Towns of Centerville, Eaton, Liberty, Meeme, Newton, Schleswig and Rockland) did not include Maple Grove.
If the Fred Schmitz who was elected to the Assembly had served in the War, he would have boasted of it in his official biography; instead, the War is not mentioned in any way, although his various local political posts are lovingly enumerated at length.

Kent... simple words of thanks are not enough, but they are all I have right now. The photos of his marker definitely puts a finishing touch on the Find A Grave memorial.
