I am continuing research on a particular bit of the history of McDonald County, Missouri (sometimes called McDonald Territory) and have a page concerning their well-known attempt to secede from the State of Missouri, in 1961. (See the link given below.) Thank you to the then-Governor Orval Faubus of Arkansas who graciously offered to accept McDonald County into the State of Arkansas. "After all," he said, "it would offset the "bootheel." Oddly enough, to this day, McDonald County, although in Missouri, remains as a part of the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers Federal Metropolitan Statistical Area. To me, the incident provided a fascinating story, which tied in to another interest: philately and cover collecting (local posts).

Thank you to those who have checked and processed your edits!

9-22-2014 NEW RULE: Due to abuse, I am forced to stop accepting "blind" correction messages. If you have your message function blocked which prevents anyone from contacting you, and don't have an email address or some way to contact you, I will likely delete your message. Also, submitting 'proof' by saying that a previous memorial existing with different spelling, with no photos of the marker to verify, or anything else to say why your source is more accurate than mine - is not a reason for me to delete an entry I made five minutes earlier. I have no reason to doubt the survey/source that I took the research time to locate. If there is a photo in the correct cemetery, that's one thing. Also, keep in mind that simple courtesy and respect go a long way, considering we are all volunteers.

RE: More duplicates REPLY
Public shaming? Personal grudge? Hardly. You make mistakes, I find them. You think I'm the only one watching you work? What if I stopped? Would you feel proud to have all of your errors stay online?

More duplicates
The memorials you just created in Round Springs Cemetery, Delaware County are duplicates as they were already created in Old Eucha Cemetery. It is your responsibility to perform a rudimentary name check prior to creating these memorials so others don't need to check your work and catch your mistakes.

RE: Middle Creek Cemetery
Hi Wes, I personally read/transcribed the Middle Creek Cemetery located at the rear of my property in Sasakwa, Seminole County, OK. This cemetery is a predominantly black cemetery with some Seminole Indians buried here. This cemetery is no longer used and is on donated land. Those interred were members of Middle Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sasakwa, OK.

I did not perform any research at the Middle Creek Cemetery #2 in Wewoka, OK. While I am not positive, I believe that this cemetery belongs to the Middle Creek Baptist Church #2, an Indian Church.

You could contact Seminole Count Assessor's office with your inquiry regarding legal description at or call (405) 257-3371. They can probably tell you right away which cemetery is the correct one based on your information.

If for some reason they can't help you, let me know and I will go there personally when I get some free time.

Kind regards,
Cathy Johnson

RE: Marcum/Brushy Creek

I think the only way to resolve the issue is to go to the Marcum Cemetery or to the Brush Creek Cemetery to see which contains the graves in question. The Tyner publication does not correspond with the records of the Army Corps of Engineers. The Corp records show that the Marcum Cemetery is itself a cemetery moved from a previous location. (See data I entered on home page of Marcum Cemetery.) It could very well be that these graves were moved a second time (to the Brush Creek Cemetery) as the construction process ensued and that moved was not recorded by the Army Corps.

All of the Marcum memorials you entered yesterday in Brushy Creek Cemetery are duplicates. The originals are in Marcum Cemetery. Listing of originals and duplicates:
