Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've noticed a lot of contributors are getting confused about the new Naming Conventions. Below are the guidelines that FindaGrave established. I hope it will help when creating a memorial.

FindaGrave Guidelines for Naming Conventions

If a hyphen or an apostrophe is part of the name, use the punctuation.

A period should be used after names where only an initial is known. If the full name is known, use the full name and not the initial.

No other punctuation should be used within any Name Field.

Full capitalization (ALL-CAPS) of names should not be used in any Name Field.

Suffixes and Prefixes do not belong in any Name Field. For instance, don't put a title like "Sgt" or Rev" in the "First Name" field.

First Name
First name of the deceased. Put the entire first name (if known), even if the grave marker is only an initial.

Middle Name
Middle name of deceased. Put the entire middle name (if known), even if the grave marker is only an initial.

Nickname of deceased, if known; the nickname is automatically placed in quotes.

Maiden Name
Maiden name of a married individual, if known (otherwise leave blank); the maiden name is automatically italicized and should only be used if the individual was married and took the spouse's last name as their new last name. If the deceased was never married, then the last name should be placed in the "Last Name" field, NOT in the "Maiden Name" field.

Last Name
Last Name as you would find it on the tombstone, if the interred had more than one marriage or other possible spellings please place this information in the bio and use the family links. Do not include honorary or other suffixes in the Last Name field.
Now for my stuff:

Like a lot of members I started with FindaGrave looking for my ancestors to preserve their memories for future generations. I cannot begin to tell you how Thankful I am for all the wonderful people that went out of their way to help me in fulfilling my quest. So I wanted to pay it forward and I found the best way I could do that is to work with veterans and their families. They have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedom and as a spouse of a NAVY veteran this is the least I could do. So since then I have been working with a wonderful group of volunteers and the International Wargraves Photography Project adding and editing veteran memorials to the National Cemeteries.

Currently I am working on Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery checking and cross checking each and every name for errors and or duplicates and sending requests for corrections when needed.

I am also helping FindaGrave contributor Tom Brocher (#47674416) to upload headstone photos for Golden Gate National Cemetery.
Suggestions & Corrections: Please make sure your Memorial # is listed along with an explanation. If your correspondence is RUDE in any way, it will be ignored. This site was created to help others, not to criticize, harass or bully. Be kind to your fellow volunteers, since we are all trying to achieve the same goal of helping others on the amazing website!

If your correction is not completed within a couple of days do not send a second request. Find A Grave has a thirty day policy to have your corrections honored and as the Guidelines state Have Patience it will get done.
Transfers: I have had many contributors asking to have the same memorial transferred to them. We cannot please everyone so I am only adhering to the four generation rule (siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren). As the guidelines state the goal is not to "own" every memorial of those to whom you are related. The ultimate goal should be to have meaningful, accurate memorials that honor those who have passed away, regardless of who created the memorial or who maintains it. A wonderful way to gather all your ancestors together and achieve that goal is by setting up virtual a cemetery.

I will not transfer bulk surname requests. No exceptions so please do not ask.

If you do not want the memorial transferred but have accurate information to add, I will be more than happy to add it and credit you with the information.

I don't always send a thank you so I would like to give a SINCERE "Thank You" to all the contributors and photographers for all that you have done for me and for FindaGrave. It really means a lot.

Happy Hunting!

Thanks very much!
Hi Cindy,
Thank you so much for transferring my grandparents' pages (Frank and Alice Ward) to me. I was bitten by the "Find a Grave" bug recently through, and I'm discovering how fun it is to share the pictures and stories of the people who have meant so much to me.

Best regards,

I'm fully aware of what a cenotaph is but clueless as to why you are sending this message.
IF I notified anyone about these 2 memorials it was to have them noted (in the memorial) in that regard. That was always Find A Grave's practice in the past - if that's what you are referring to and something has changed, let me know - in the future, i won't bother.
