I am looking for information concerning the Queens, Waycasters (Wacaster), and Wilsons. Specifically the Queens who came from Scotland and moved to Georgia, then came to North Carolina and lived in Cleveland, Rutherford, McDowell, Mitchell, and Yancey counties; Waycasters from McDowell, Mitchell, and Yancey counties; and the Wilsons from Mitchell and Yancey counties. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My grandparents were Clair Arthur and Pearl Huskins Queen. My great grandparents were George Kirk and Nancy Loven Queen. My great great grandparents were Daniel and Elizabeth Dulcenia Waycaster Queen. My great great great grandparents were Meredith and Susan Queen. | |

 | RE: Wilsons Cemetery Hi Erika. Thanks for responding. I stopped by the cemetery again this past Saturday and dug around some. I found another foot stone under about 6 inches of leaves and debris. I think some markers are just buried. I found the on-line transcription, but I can't find all the markers. They had to get the names from somewhere. The reason I contacted you is because I was contacted about the two cemeteries and there being duplicates. When I went on-line to Wilson Cemetery, there was only two memorials. I thought, 'Oh no, Erika deleted her memorials' till I discovered someone had the two cemeteries merged. I have removed my duplicates and I contacted the other person who had a few duplicates. I think she might still have one duplicate left. Speaking of cemeteries in bad shape, the Coulter's AME Zion up the road from Wilson's is pitiful. They have an old cemetery on one side of the church building and the new one on the other side. The old one needs cleaning. It is so sad..

 | RE: Wilsons Cemetery Do you mind telling me which county library this was. I'm in Lincoln County and I tried to find a book like that but had no luck. The reason I'm asking is there is a Coulters Cemetery with the same people buried in it. From what I have found, the earlier deceased death certificates say they are buried in Coulters and as early as 1952 death certificates have Wilson Chapel or Coulters. Starting in the 1980's they all say Wilson or Wilson Chapel. A few miles north of this cemetery on Startown Road is a church with the name Coulters Grove AME Zion. My thinking is this small cemetery started out as Coulters and later the name was changed to Wilson. I would love to find some history on it. I stopped there last month and took photo's of every grave that had a monument. The cemetery is in horrific condition. It sits right at the road edge; a ditch is the only thing that separates it from the road. This is the third African American cemetery I have seen in the last 30 days not being maintained by anyone. Any suggestions, please let me know. | | | Sue Leitzsey Bradley
 | Wilsons Cemetery Hi Erika. Can you please tell me where/how you obtained the information about how the Wilsons Cemetery on Startown Road in Newton, Catawba County, NC come to be. I find it to be interesting, but I can't find any history on this cemetery. I know it existed as I have researched every burial. It seems the older burials list it on the death certificates as Coulters Cemetery and the later burials have Wilson Chapel. You refer to Judge Wilson Warlick in the description of the cemetery.
Any information you can give me would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Sue | | | patricia hughes

 | RE: Fanny and Mark Queene pics You are welcome. Wish there was more information there for you but just two simple stones.
If you have any additional info you would like to share about them by e-mail I can try to locate birth or death certificates for you, assuming they are in this county.

 | Phone Hi I'm just wondering if this is still an active cemetery? Also, can someone point me in the direction of whoever is in charge of it and possibly even a phone number? I would greatly appreciate it. | | | | [View all messages...] |
