Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am of Norwegian and Austrian descent. I can trace my Norwegian ancestry back to Christiania/Oslo and Brevik, Norway. Many of my family members are buried at Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago Illinois.

I have been taking pictures of the graves in the older, predominently Scandinavian sections of Mount Olive Cemetery and logging them on this site.

At Mount Olive, the office will look up one grave for free, and charge $10 for every look up after. I would be happy to take any pictures at this cemetery, as long as you can provide the Section/Lot #. Please message me :)

A little history on Mount Olive Cemetery:
Established in 1889, Mount Olive Cemetery was first known as a Scandinavian cemetery. One of the more distinct features of Mount Olive Cemetery is the Archway at the main cemetery entrance. It is one of a few cemeteries to have a bell in the tower that is rung as each interment procession arrives through the Archway.
The old chapel at Mount Olive was constructed in 1889 and was in service until 1960. It has been featured in several history books because of its unique structural design and age. It has also been considered for historical landmark status by the City of Chicago.

Favorite Cemeteries I've Visited: Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA (beautiful!) and Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA (for the people buried there and its odd location, hidden among towering high-rises).

Favorite Graves I've Seen in Person: Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, and the Gilbertson Family at Mount Olive (92765528). I love the angel carved into their gravestone.

Pamela,

As an artist, I wish to present my loved ones memorials as stories that paint a picture of both themselves and their burial day.

May I please use the following information of yours on my 2 Christensen ancestors memorials for Mount Olive in Chicago?

RE: Mount Olive Cemetery
Thank you so much. Just curious, on Ragnhild Egebak Christensen's memorial I have only added 3 photos. You might try again please. Thank you.

Also, I have the plot numbers for both graves listed on the memorials. I acquired those yesterday.

They also sent me a map showing the location of each. Would you like me to email that map to you.

Many, many thanks.

Peace.

Mount Olive Cemetery
Hello There,

I, too, have ancestors in Mount Olive Cemetery. I just learned this yesterday. We are of Danish decent. I have created memorials for my 2 loved ones.

I would be honored if you would attach your photo and caption of the "Viking Water Fountain at Mount Olive in Chicago" to my ancestors memorials. I love it.

Ragnhild Egebak Christensen #141988948.

Lastly, I did submit photo requests for the above mentioned memorials. I see you are willing to photograph Mount Olive too, so I will mention to you also that I am looking to obtain photos of these graves. Might have to wait for the snow to melt, huh?

Peace.

Kathryn Hanson
I see you set up and took a picture of the headstone on this memorial. I am trying to locate Paul H Hanson born 1898 in Kansas and had moved to Illinois. I did find he had married a Kathryn but not sure what her name was before the marriage.
The memorial for Kathryn is #94776333 and I was wondering if when you set it up you might have had more info on her that you can give me to see if she is the wife of Paul Hanson.
Thanks in advance

Riiser Graves
Pamela,
Thank you so much for taking the time to photograph the Riiser graves. They were my great-great-grandparents. One of their two sons changed his name to Riser...so it is interesting that he must have decided to put his re-imagined name as theirs on the headstone.

I live in California. Thank you for being my legs and eyes in Chicago~ It is a wonderful gift!

Alma Malmstrom
I would like to thank you for taking pictures of my great-grandmothers grave. Alma Malmstrom, she is buried with her first husband Leopald Stern. I am in a major search for anything about her and she seems to be a mystery. I did find a two story brick home that her and Leopald shared with their children in the late 1800s and it still stands in Chicago. Again, thank you! Not sure why you took it, but if you had a request to take it, wish I knew from whom.

Thank you so much for the photos of my grandfather, grandmother and aunt and uncles (in the middle of all the fires). I really appreciate that you took the time to do this for me.

Thank you again,
