Bio and Links
Bio Photo After a few months of lurking on the site I decided to try to fill some photo requests for my town Colonial era cemetery March 2013. Tough to find with no plot. In the oldest part of the cemetery I found 2 rows of gothic brownstones around 2-3:00 pm and decided to photograph all of them. They were difficult to photograph & read with backlight glare.

Finally one morning I couldn't sleep and managed to get out to the cemetery around 8 am and voilą, the sun hits the face of the stone and all is revealed. I had to get there way before 9 am! I finished photographing the 120 stones and by then I was hooked. I might as well do the whole cemetery. Jan 2014 I printed out the Hale Cemetery Inscriptions and added the names I missed. I finished photographing those stones or getting area pics if the stone was no longer there May 2014.

So the Old Cemetery in East Haven Conn is photographed. See my virtual cemetery of photographic challenges that need a big mirror and a few names I could not find if you want to try your hand at it.

Update: *Old Cemetery in North Haven (Old Center) Started to photograph in 2014. Finished that in April/May 2015 before the many large trees leafed out. Worked off of Hale Cemetery Listing 1933 transcribed by Charles Hale himself. Also had two 1888 inventories to add names. All standing headstones have a photograph or area photos if no longer standing.

*Brandford Center Cemetery, Started to photograph Section A the oldest part of the cemetery, May 2014. Finished Aug 2015 (Hale 1934 list & modern after 1934). Section B, to the left of the road to the office, finished Hale 1934 list July 2016 & some names after 1934. Section C beyond the office a handful of names from the 1934 list I could not find, & don't know the percent of modern memorials photographed.

Suggest a correction tools I use- whats on the headstone, Family Search for census, Conn State Library collection in Ancestry, especially the Hale Cemetery Inscriptions copied during the 1930's, the Barbour Collection of town vital records, The East Haven Register by Rev. Stephen Dodd pub. 1824, Families of Ancient New Haven by Donald Lines Jacobus & the local libraries. Also a handful of times I've asked for help in the forums and got fantastic results.

Zebulon Bradley
Hi Suzanne
I just discovered this site and your generous contributions to it material.
As a direct descendant of Isaac Bradley of East Haven and later Zebulon Bradley & his son Elijah, I've had an interest in the Branford (where my father was born) and East Haven histories.
I just spent a few hours researching the "Prison Ship Martyrs" and came upon references to your material via citations for Asa and Abijah Bradley and then Zebulon.

What stood out to me was your photo of the plaque on East Haven green with the names of the local dead from the Revolutionary War: Zabulon Bradley is listed there along with his brothers.

Truly unfortunate that the creators of the monument did not fact-check better. The only place in all of the historical materials (town, county, state records, etc) where that miss-spelling occurs is in S. E. Hughes, History of East Haven!

Should we start a petition to have the marker revised?

More seriously, those brave and unlucky four brothers (Zebulon, Abijah, Asa and Eijah) set out on some exploit on their privateer and were intercepted by the British. One died of wounds and three were captured and sent to prison ships in the East River, NY where Abijah and Asa died. Elijah was the only survivor of the four and he returned and lived out his life in E Haven.

Photo of Abigail Beardsley's plot (memorial #147365603)
Wow, thank you so much for the way you identified Abigail's plot! It should be very easy to locate for anyone who decides to visit her in the future. Maybe someday a descendant or relative will be able to get a marker for her.

Edwin Marshall Brewer
Dear Suzanne,
Thank you for the gravestone photo for Edwin Marshall Brewer (FindaGrave #138497786). He was only about a year and a half old.

I noticed your comment below the larger photo, saying that "The white obelisk in back is for Clarissa Lyman Richards."

You might also add: "Clarissa was little Eddie's grandmother."

Thank you for your kindness!

Marie Pitcher/Pitcher plot
Thank you for providing photo and information on Marie Creed Pitcher and Pitcher plot.
Your time and effort is much appreciated.

I'm wondering if you could add the plot photo to Daniel Henry Pitcher Memorial #147393998 and John Asher Pitcher Memorial #147394003.

Thank so very much,

Bflo,NY
