Bio and Links
Bio Photo I started hanging out in cemeteries while doing family research. Currently, I'm focusing on Myers and Owen/Owens mostly in Callaway, Audrain and Atchison County, Missouri and Bertels in Stark and Summit County, Ohio.

When I take a photo for my memorials or as a volunteer, I usually take photos of nearby headstones and add them also. When requested and as time allows, I will also check for obits at the local library if the specific death or burial date is known. My library is happily located in the block between my job and my parking spot.

The state of Washington has a fantastic digital archive online. If you are looking in Washington, you should definitely check here: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/Home.

Hello VeraMarie, I am wondering where your source is for where this lady died. The registration number is correct, however, place of death is stated unknown, and it does not give the second name.

Natal cemetery
Hi again VeraMarie, the correction below is right. The Natal cemetery was not moved but some unidentified graves were moved from the old town site to the Elk Valley- Michel - formerly the Natal-Michel cemetery. Just wanted to correct and clarify what I had said below and Amanda's info is correct.

Adamcak - Elk Valley Cemetery
Hello VeraMarie, I see that in the biography you have suggested that the town of Michel is now a ghost town. That is incorrect. The two small towns of Natal and Michel were about a mile apart, perhaps a bit less. These towns were not only bulldozed down, anything in sight was bulldozed down and then set afire. They were left standing for a short while until the Government of British Columbia Health Division enforced the coal companies to demolish these homes and anything else - there was Cholera. The reason the houses were abandoned was because the mining method was changed to strip mining, and the residents were forced to move since it was no longer practical for them to be where they were. Many of the residents moved to Sparwood, which is very close to where the small towns were. There is also confusion around the name of Natal. Originally it was called New Michel, but changed to Natal not long after. In fact, the cemetery Elk Valley was originally Natal Cemetery; also the cemetery name Elk Valley is incorrect, it is Elk Valley-Michel Cemetery. There is also an incorrect story that the graves in Natal Cemetery were exhumed and reburied in Elk Valley-Michel Cemetery, that is also a myth, no graves were exhumed from the Natal Cemetery, but there were graves found when some building excavating was done in the area and they were moved to Elk Valley-Michel Cemetery. Also some graves were found immediately outside of the Cemetery fence, so the town moved the fence to include them (guess they measured wrong originally). I was born in Natal, so that is how I have all of this information; and while you may read otherwise, what I am saying here is fact. Have just returned from that area, and my information is from the library and also a historian for that area. Information I had always known, but needed to prove for myself. I have many family members buried in this cemetery, so it is very near and dear to my heart. If you see the name Middletown, that was where the office buildings were (actually in between Natal and Michel proper).

Amanda.

RE: Marco Borsato
Hi VeraMarie, My Grandmother was born in Michel, my father in Natal! I have checked with the Sparwood town hall and they have stated that the Natal - Michel cemetery that was located in Natal, was moved to the Elk Valley cemetery. In looking for my relatives I researched this one - Passi 102821215. I have put the notes from the cemetery on there. Please see if this person belongs to your family and I will gladly transfer to you. I have finished combining the two memorials for Marco. Thank you so much! Karen

Believe you made a typo on this memorial. Elmo's surname is Most, not Barber. Thanks for updating.
