Fun with genealogy math! ;-)
Actually, we're 6th cousins.
First cousins share a set of grandparents. Second cousins, great grandparents. Third, great-great...and so on. So 5x great grandparents equals 6th cousins.
Another way to think about it is great=grand. I would say my fathers uncle is my great uncle, others use granduncle. Me - great great uncle, others, great granduncle. So 5x great + grand = 6 generations.
BTW, we all have 128(!) 5x great grandparents. Given that back then 8, 10, 12 children was commonplace, how many living descendants do you think Ephraim and Rachel have? Yeah, I don't know either. But the correct answer is definitely A LOT! :-)

Noticed your flowers and note on Ephraim's memorial page. Also my 5xG-Grandfather! Of course A LOT of people can say that after that many generations. :-)
My descent from Ephraim goes:
Jesse m. Keziah Stubbs
Hannah m. Calvin Edgerton
And on down to my paternal grandmother whose maiden name was Edgerton.
Fred (aka Severian)
