Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm hooked on finding our roots, also scrapbooking and reading good books. The major last names in our family tree are Burke/Pierce/McKay/McDonald. While studying the roots of our family tree, I discovered that my father was adopted into the Burke family. His bio-parents are Evelyn Vonderwerth and his father is Ernest Martin. I would love to find out more about the Vonderwerth/Martin family from Detroit, wayan county, Michigan. As I travel back to Michigan and here in Northern Virginia (Winchester)I stop in different cemeteries.

I work across the street from Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, VA and like to spend my lunch hour at the cemetery walking and taking pictures.

Hi Christy,

I went to the cemetery today but didn't have a lot of time. I did find Darothy Fawcett (not Dorothy!), but I wasn't really looking for her; just happened to stumble across her looking for someone else! A nice surprise!

Norwood McKenzie is the one I was hoping to find; he's in an easy spot really close to the office, but he must have a flat marker, because the woman from the office went with me when I couldn't find him, and we were where he should have been. Unfortunately, the snow covering the markers now is frozen, so I couldn't just push it off the flat stones like I did last time I went up.

I'll be back in Winchester on the 26th, so I'll look for anything you and JT have left behind then.

Thanks.

Sue

RE: Photo Requests for Cemetery: Mount Hebron Cemetery
Ah. I see. I'm thinking these are the same ones that I claimed awhile back and reported problems I'd had in locating the graves. No worries. I've already given them my best shot. Hopefully someone else will have better results.

RE: John Tylor
Oh, ok Christy; I didn't know about that website! Super! I'll go look for some, but don't claim anything 'til I get home and tell you whether or not I found them, ok?

When I was there 2 weeks ago everything was so covered with snow I couldn't find anything, even uncovering everything in the area where they were supposed to be. I'm hoping they're uncovered now, as I only have about an hour and a half or so to search between appts at the Stephens City Vet Clinic.

I'll let you know how I do. Thanks!

John Taylor
Hi Christy,

I was at Mt Hebron 2 weeks ago and checked with the office about Mr. Taylor. They have no record of him with those dates, so unless his dates are listed incorrectly, he isn't there.

Just thought you should know before you hunt; meant to record the problem earlier but forgot. Remembered today because I'm going to be in the area tomorrow and was going to look for some of the others, but I see you've claimed them so I'll go somewhere else! lol

RE: Daren Neil Walkerow
Hi Christy,

Thanks for getting back to me. I found out several years ago "through the grapevine" that he passed away. I didn't know for sure until I saw the picture you posted. Thanks so much for doing this. He meant a lot to me. We dated for almost a year in 1986 and I had been pregnant and miscarried in my 4th month. I often just wonder what happened to him at such a young age. I was just so sad to hear that he passed away. I'm still looking for his twin brother. We were good friends back then. I will be able to get info. from him if I can find him. I believe Daren died in Medina, Ohio from what I can tell from records I have found. He has family in Virginia which I assume is why he is buried there. Thanks so much for what you do.

Sincerely,
Pam

RE: Ernest Martin
Yes, that is fine. Just add a note that the photo was taken in August 2013 by Julie F. Witkowski

Thanks

Thank you so much for your hard work in finding this grave. It takes real dedication and I can't tell you how much this means to our family. Is it ok with you if I add this picture to our family tree both our personal one and the one on Ancestry . com with your name on it of course. God Bless Christy

Hi Christy,
I didn't see any. You might want to check the cemetery website...Mt Elliott cemetery association. I believe they list all burials.

RE: Really
Really. No need to presume ill motives. I had taken the picture previously, along with several others for the same requesting person, different surname. I contacted them to let them know I'd found a potential family member. They were pleased but hadn't yet created a memorial for Mr. Brown and emailed me back saying they would do so and asked me to post the pic ... which I did. I have no desire to compete with any photo volunteers on findagrave. And I certainly do not wish to create hard feelings. I apologize if I have inadvertently done so.
