I feel myself dejected now
forsaken and alone.
And I wish I had a plenty left
That I could call my own.
My troubles come rollin on
Like billows over the deep I often sigh and walk alone
And sit me down and weep.
But God is good
His ways I cannot scan.
He certainly knows what is best
For me, poor, old and feeble man.
Composed when aged and infirmed. Samuel B. Younglove Sept 1893.

RE: Albert Hillabrant
Grace,
It would have been nice if they hadn't named the 2 cemeteries with the same name in the first place!
I'm working on the one in Petersburg.
Thanks again,
Shannon

RE: Albert Hillabrant
Grace,
I'm sorry for not being clearer. Albert is buried in Pleasant View in Petersburg, not in Blissfield.

Sorry I didn't specify which Pleasant View!

Dorothy Carney
Hi Grace:
Dorothy Carney was the wife of Earl Carney and she passed away Monday as I sent you an edit for her death date. Sometimes that never gets inscribed and no obit was in the Monroe paper. I found it online at the funeral home in Milan.

RE: Cemetery Readings
Grace,
Sorry for the slow reply. I was getting ready for my trip to the Midwest, and then flew out yesterday.
The following is the info I have on my 3-gr grandparents that were possibly buried in Pioneer Cemetery in Dundee Twp.

Thomas Lee, b. 10 Sep 1808 in Mass., Conn, or New York, d. 27 Feb 1893 at home, northeast of Petersburg, Summerfield Twp.

Paulina (Seward) Lee, b. Abt. 1813 in New York, d. 4 Feb 1892 at home, northeast of Petersburg, Summerfield Twp.

They had 4 (possibly 5) kids: Eliza F, Paulina, Lucy Almina, (Possibly Hannah E.), and Thomas F.

I know they are NOT in the cemetery records for Pleasant View, which is where I would have expected them to be. I've often wondered if they were in a cemetery in Dundee Twp. Since Dundee doesn't keep the best records, I haven't been able to find anything as of yet though. They were residents of Summerfield Twp for about 60 years.
I appreciate any help you could give me on where they might be buried.
Thanks,
Shannon

RE: Cemetery Readings
Grace:
Thanks for the info on the cemetery readings. That sounds like it is going to be a great resource. I wish I lived in the area so that I could help you out. I would love to do that. I suppose I could get involved in similar activities out here in California. I just donít feel the same connection to the cemeteries out here because none of my relatives or ancestors are buried out here. My mother-in-law and father-in-law are here, but that is it. Iíve been out here 27 years, but I think Iíll always be a Midwest girl at heart.
Since you are involved in Dundee, do you know anything about the Pioneer Cemetery that used to exist in Dundee Township? The History of Cemeteries and Family Burial Plots in Monroe County, Michigan book says it was near the intersection of Petersburg and Kent Roads. It says the stones were all removed when the land was sold. I just wondered if there was any more information on the cemetery. I have been unable to locate my 3rd great grandparents burial location in Summerfield or Dundee Townships. They lived in Summerfield for 60 years before their deaths in 1892 and 1893. I found an early Michigan Pioneer record of them in the Michigan State Archives and it lists them as being buried in Pioneer Cemetery. That is the only reference I have ever found as to where they were buried. I would love to find some more information on the cemetery. Do you have any suggestions on where to look? I have been by, but never in, the Old Mill in Dundee a million times because one of my Aunts lives a couple of miles west of Dundee off M50. Do you think they might have any info on it there? I appreciate any ideas you may have.
Thanks,
Shannon

Cemetery Readings
Hi Grace,
So what gets done with the final listing you come up with following the reading and the research? Does it get published or where can I get a copy? I would even like copies of the Oak Grove and Maple Grove readings back in 1985. Of course I am willing to pay for them if need be.
Do you know if the Historical Society has done a reading at the Old Petersburg Village (Wing) cemetery since it was renovated? I know they cleaned and fixed lots of stones, which would have made them easier to read.
So, when are you all doing the reading at Maple Grove? I will actually be in the area for a short visit next week. My niece is getting married so I am coming home to Indiana and Michigan for that.
Thanks,
Shannon

RE: Friederieke Sonntag
Hi Grace,
I'm happy to help how ever I can. So who is the "we" that is going to read the cemetery? Apparently the Dundee Twp. Clerk's office doesn't keep records of who is buried in Oak Grove or Maple Grove. They just have the records of who owns the plots. I find that really strange. They told me the high school kids had walked Oak Grove at some point and tried to make a map of the people listed on the headstones. I don't know if the same was done for Maple Grove. It seems like it would be a really good starting point for them to begin keeping better records.
Anyway, enough of my opinions on the subject!
Good luck on the Maple Grove project. I wish I was there to help.

Friederieke Sonntag
Hi Grace,
Regarding your suggestion:
-------------------------
On the 1985 cemetery reading for Maple Grove the dates listed for Friederieke Sonntag are 1854-1917.
-------------------------
Those dates didn't match what I had in my files, so I hunted down her death certificate. So I added her death certificate and the following dates and locations to her page.
14 Jan 1857 - Germany
20 Oct 1903 - Monroe Co., MI

Thanks for the reminder that I needed to finish adding her info.
