I am Kerry Elkins. I live in Oregon with my wife Joyce. I'm retired. I have been busy working on the family trees of my side (Elkins, Monroe, Stansbury, Patchin, Usher, Satterwhite, Hallum and Woody) I grew up in Neodesha, KS, and have many relatives there. |
STRANGERS IN A BOX
Come, look with me inside this drawer
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white
faces proud, still, serene.
I wish I knew the people
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories
are lost among my socks.
I wonder what their lives were like
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.
If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where or when,
These faces of my heritage
would come to life again.
Could this become the fate
Of pictures we take today?
The faces and memories
Someday to be passed away?
Make time to save your stories
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box.

Kerry...thanks for letting me know about the dups. Wow, I don't know what was wrong with me that day - 3 memorials!! I accidentally deleted the memorial with the photo before transferring to the last one...guess I will retake it next time I'm over there! Thanks again!--Vickie

You're welcome. We try to get down there twice a year around Memorial and Veterans day every year. WE take care of Summit Graveyard where my Ggrandfather is buried. It is in a 3 acre pasture northeast of Fredonia . He was a civil war veteran so we make sure he has a flag. Will be down there in April or May of 2014 and maybe there will be plenty of requests by that time.
I have made the parental links. Thanks for the additional information! Have a blessed day! Cheryl

I loved 'Strangers in a Box'. It is so true and that is what I am trying now to do for my grandchildren down the line. My regret is that I didn't ask questions when I still had the chance.
I am thinking that since you live in Oregon and William is in Kentucky you are probably related and didnt just wander through the Coddingham Farm Cemetery by chance. He is my husbands 3rd great grandfather and I would love to know what you know. We live in California. Sharon Williams email@example.com.

Thank you for the memorial page transfer of my cousin. I made sure it got to her sister where it belonged. The obit was incorrect - both parents have already passed.

I had the photo from when I had taken the whole cemetery. Somehow missed adding Catherine. Thank you for adding her. Florence

Thank you. I see you have a lot of the Gentry's. Maybe you can help me or know a kin of Ralph's that can. Ralph was brother to our Lloyd Gentry. Lloyd 883837 married Beulah Powers 88313 and they are parents to Jack Walker Gentry 117225797. Jack is my husband's father.
I have a puzzling information in my research of Richard Randolph Gentry and Minerva Ann Beard. Have you any information of this union? Thanks, Tess
